I don’t know.  I wonder the same thing. I think I am way behind you (how far along are you) but have been having them fairly frequently. They are very uncomforable but mostly, since I am only 20 weeks, they worry me.  When did yours start?

@travellingfool:  I’m 28 weeks and haven’t yet felt any Braxton Hicks. They’re happening the entire pregnancy, but they are usually too mild to feel until the 3rd trimester. Some people feel them easlier, about the same time they start to feel the baby quicken.

@morkiemama:  To me they feel like squeezing that starts on the outside and works its way in.  Then your abdomen gets super hard, like a rock.  It is uncomfortable but not really painful for me.  Then it kind of releases in reverse. And everything goes softer again. It is weird. Mine only last about 30 seconds. Ihave been getting them intermittantly throughout the day but tend to get more in the evening and when I am laying down.

@mrsSonthebeach:  Yeah that’s right.  I started to feel them the same week I started to feel the baby move.  He is very active and kicks like crazy! I can even see him from the outside already so that might be annoying my uterus… I don’t know.  Doctor isn’t concerned since my cervix is closed and long.

braxton hicks get stronger the closer u r to delivery… there is no way to cope other than just withstanding them. take a bath and try to relax thats about it, they are going to get so bad u think u maybe in labor… just remember the rule for true and false labor, if it is true labor the pain will not stop but increase steadily, between the point i felt contractions and gave birth was a total of 8 hrs

@travellingfool:  OMG I’ve totally had that EXACT feeling!  I get it mostly at night, but I had no idea what it was!

@morkiemama:  Yeah I think I was getting them before I realized it too.  Then I had a couple of stronger ones and I was like, whoa! It really isn’t anything to worry about unless they are coming several times an hour. (My doctor says every 10 minutes)  Nonetheless, I am anxious by nature so of course I get anxious about it…

I started having them around 25 weeks. Now 35 weeks.  Last week I started having them once an hour.  But that has stopped and gone back to just every now and then.  From what I’ve read online the baby’s movement can cause them.  My doctor just tells me drink water, try to relax, avoid stairs and lifting anything over 10lbs.  So I did that and they subsided.  I’ve gone up the stairs twice this week, only because my nursery is upstairs and I needed to tell my mom where I wanted things to go.  I’ve been letting her and the hubby do the lifting!

Mine feel more like the baby is tumbling inside and taking my organs with him.  And when you feel my stomach it is hard as a rock.  Then it goes soft like PP said.

I have no idea what they feel like, let alone if I have had any. I am a day shy of 31 weeks.

I am 30 weeks and started having them last week.  They’re not too strong right now.  For me it feels like the bottom of my belly is being squeezed.  It totally shocked me when I first had one!
