A while back I posted that my mother in law was supposed to handle the hotel reservations. Its the 1 thing I asked her to do. She works part time and has the time to look into it. Or so I thought. I was considering taking that job away from her and just doing it myself.
I really should have.
There is a big football game in town that weekend. The world Dairy Expo is the next weekend (yes, it may sound silly, but everyone in the world who cares about anything Dairy is here).
My fiance convinced me that it would hurt his mom’s feelings to take that job away from her. So, I let her keep the job, asking for updates weekly “I’ll do it this week” was always here reply. So I decided to look for myself. Here, we’re less than 3 months out, with no hotel rooms and there are none to be had.
I am freaking out, sitting here at work trying to keep from crying with rage.
WHAT DO I DO!?
All of their family is local ALL of mine is traveling. So now my family and friends have nowhere to stay. I’m incredibly hurt and really don’t know what to do.

Can you rent a house for family to stay in?

Ouch, yeah coming from a dairy person living in Madison, that is not good. World Dairy Expo is definitely a big deal – heck I’m going to be there again this year. Where is your ceremony/venue at? Or at least what side of town? You could try some of the further out suburbs that might be less packed with football fans/dairy folk. Might be further for your guests to drive, but better than having no where to stay. Also maybe look at bed & breakfasts, don’t know if they would book up with those people as well.
How many hotels have you called? And where? I mean, if you are calling hotels at all close to Camp Randall/Alliant Energy center, you’re not going to get anything, but further out might work.
You could always arrange some kind of shuttle service if you do end up being further away.
PM if you need more help/don’t want personal info on the board. I know that all the dairy judging teams will be in the weekend of your wedding, which is why WDE is booking all the hotels so far ahead of the main events. They generally book cheaper hotels though, so some of the ritzier ones might still have rooms.

Its a big issue, we’ve decided to try to book some rooms down in Janesville and get a van, I think that’s really going to be my only option. There’s a few hotels left in town, but they’re all upwards of $300 a night. I’ll let my guests know about them, but after a plane ticket, I don’t expect people to want to spend that kind of money. I had no idea the world dairy expo was happening… like, I didn’t know it happened at all. I tried everything around madison, even out into the ‘burbs… so we go further 😛
Anybody know anything about booking vans?!

something else – you mentioned his family is all local, would they be willing to let any of your family stay with them?
Sorry this is happening and boo on your Future Mother-In-Law for dropping the ball on this.

check this out http://www.vrbo.com/271091
4 bdrm house, 19 miles from madison, can accomodate up to 13 people, which appears to be available your wedding weekend.
We’ve done vacation rentals through vrbo several times before, as it is always cheaper for a group to stay in a house than in hotels. Plus it’s more fun for the guests. Hope this helps.
