OTHER THAN propose and/or marry you.
Posting this because I like threads that make me go “aww” 🙂
For me, it was what he planned for our first dating anniversary. He took me to Santa Barbara, we stayed at a darling inn that came with bikes that we rode around on, we had an incredible dinner at a Mexican restaurant, and we went on a wine tasting tour to four different wineries. It was perfection.

Early in our dating relationship, we were long distance NYC/Chicago (first six months), and would visit monthly if we could.
Once, I was returning to NYC from visiting my dad in Vegas, and I had a layover at Midway in Chicago. Fiance bought the cheapest one way ticket that they had so that he could wait with me during my layover. We had a drink at the Harry Caray bar, and it was so romantic of him!!!
I just love thinking about that!

@ladyamalthea: he wrote a song and sang it to me at the wedding in front of our 167 guests! He started off by making a speech and then it led into the song he wrote. I was shocked

My Fiance is pretty romantic in general but I’d say the most romantic thing was when we were long distance, I was having a terrible day and I left work to see him standing outside with a big bouquet of flowers.
He got in the car right after we spoke and made it in time to pick me up, take me for dinner and all around cheer me up.

@ladyamalthea: Our first valentines, he decorated my bedroom with chocolates, roses, balloons and hearts!!! I came home from work and i was so surprised!!!
He also once left just a single rose in a tiny vase on my door step. Text me to come to the door and there it was!
Im pretty sure that is the last of it hahaha Not really, but its not every frequent. Im lucky to get a cute/romantic surprise once a year nowadays!

When we were first going out he brought me flowers every single time he picked me up, which was about 2-3 times a week. At one point I had 12 different vases in my house full.
He also put up signs he made at work starting down my street, the first one on a power line pole said: “Jasmine is awesome!” then at the beginning of my drive way another one said “Jasmine is amazing!” then finally on my front porch chair there was the last sign and some roses that said “Jason + Jasmine”. He did it all while I was out running errands with my grandmother. He wasn’t even there to get the credit!
He won both of us over!

But my proposal was awesome! OTT, planned out, incredible.
Hmm. I guess that would be our first vacation just the two of us! We stayed in Boston, ate at some REALLY nice restaurants, he surprised me with tickets to see the Rockettes (For the first time for me!), and asked me to move in with him!
It was incredible!
I have to say this for DH–He is GOOD at the huge romantic gestures!

He surprised me with a belt buckle he made. Horses, riding, and competing is a big part of my life which he’s never gotten into so it was a huge thing for me that he made it. He knows how much hand made things mean to me and every once in a while he really knocks it out of the park and that was one of them.

Eek, it’s so hard to choose.. Probably when we had a long beach trip and would totally gorge ourselves on good food, had a great engagement dinner/party, go boating, and explored an island! Every morning, we would go walk on the beach for a couple hours or jog. Love love love.

@ladyamalthea: FH is all about simple romantic or sweet gestures. The best one so far was a few months ago, when he told me to sit at the piano with him. Usually when he plays for me he plays standard classical pieces like Mozart or something. But this time, he surprised me and played something original that he wrote for me 4 years earlier, shortly after we had first met. He said he was never sure if he wanted to share it with me (WHAT?? lol!)
I always love when he plays piano for me, but I was not expecting that! 🙂

@ladyamalthea: We are highschool sweet hearts who were seperated due to my parents moving into a different city. Even though we were not together in the same school, he would come and see me once every two weeks. On our first Valentine’s together he presented me with a diary…when I opened it, I discovered that he was writing in it since the day we went “official”…after I read all the entries (more than half of the diary – made me cry like a newborn) I got to a set of instructions. I was to write for a couple of months and then give it to him…and so we now have about 8 diaries that we kept since we were teenagers.
We have gone through high school, university and are now engaged to be married…and I still keep the diaries.
More recently he gave me a present on our anniversary: a drawing of the two of us <3

He remembered that I love swans and found a swan necklace and gave it to me for no particular reason. He also noticed that Chester the cat was sick, took him to the vets and was the one responsible for administering his medication. Seeing this big, gorgeous guy caring for an old sick cat melted my heart.

We used to compete (ok, we still compete, about everything). We would take turns planning dates and we would decide if you ‘won’ and took the top date or not. I had 3 great date ideas in a row. And then he became very secretive. He told me what day to save, sent me a google calendar invite with a cryptic message. I thought for sure we were going to do the Edge Walk on the CN Tower. I was so sure I told everyone at a party we were at the night before that I thought that’s what we were doing. We drove towards the tower the next morning and I thought YES! I guessed it!
I was wrong. He arranged for a private helicopter tour over the city and the islands. Then he took me to my absolute favourite gellato place. Then we went home for a nap. (The party the night before was out of town and ended at 3am and we slept over.)
We were taking instagram photos in the hanger, getting into the helicopter, etc. And when we landed EVERYONE was sure he’d be proposing. He didn’t. That was August, he proposed in December.
And another, on the not OTT side. I work night shifts and my schedule bounces from days to nights quickly. So our 4th or 5th date was just him coming over when I was on nights and ordering in dinner. I love that he was so cool with my schedule. I had to do laundry, so he carried the basket, came with me when I was switching it over. He asked if I was going to take the basket back up empty. I said no, I was leaving it in the laundry room. He asked if anyone would take it. Nah, that’d never happen. Of course, that’s exactly what happened (and the only time it ever has!) So he carried all my clean laundry back up in his arms.
The next day I woke up, we texted, nothing out of the norm. When I went to leave for work at 930 I found a new laundry basket with a note outside my door. He’d dropped it off while I was alseep on his lunch. And then waited for me to find it! It’s a laundry basket, but its so sweet.

On our first Valentine’s Day together, he wrote this beautiful message in my card about how he loved me and was so glad to have me in his life. I smile every time I read it.
