@MsCandyGirl:  What is traffic like?  Are most guests local?  If so, many will try to work and get to the venue after work, or maybe leave an hour early.  If you schedule the ceremony earlier how might that impact them.  If most are traveling from a long way and won’t be trying to work on Friday, then maybe going earlier doesn’t matter so much.

@MsCandyGirl:  Our Friday wedding started at 6 pm with a 30 minute ceremony. Dinner was served by 7 pm.

I think 6pm is a good start time, but the keys to pulling off a Friday night event are

1) Short ceremony

2) Reception site near ceremony site

If you are gonig to pack it into a Friday night you’ve got to make the logistics work.

Earlier than 6pm would be too early.  Maybe make sure to either have a cocktail hour right after the ceremony or have salad plates already on the tables so guests have something to eat right away if you’re really worried.  Otherwise, if the ceremony is at 6 I would likely grab a snack beforehand because it’s unlikely dinner will be served until 7 or 8 which is later than I usually eat.

@MsCandyGirl:  Fiance and I are getting married on a Friday in May and our wedding is currently scheduled for 6:30, but we are trying to change that to 6 p.m. I think 6 is a perfect time for a Friday wedding.

I think a 6pm start time sounds good. Any earlier and people will have to take off of work to attend.

Wow, I would be soo happy if our church would let us have a 6pm Friday ceremony. We are having a very hard time finding any church in the area that will let us have our ceremony at anytime other than 4 or 4:30 (which I definitely do not want to do- too early). All of the churches I contacted stated that the Saturday wedding couple will be having their rehearsal during the time that I want my Friday ceremony. It is soooo frustrating!!! I would definitely go with the 6pm. I’m hoping for 5:30 now but who knows. Ugh

You are so lucky that your catholic church lets you have the ceremony that late! The latest my church would do is 3:30 on a Friday. Our cocktail hour will start at 5pm with our reception starting at 6. It’s early but I figure our guests that really want to be there will come into town early or take a half day from work 🙂

@MsCandyGirl:  I’d think a 6:00 ceremony on any day is quite late.  Plus, what about your pictures??  Although I guess it’ll still be daylight that time of year…

I have a 1:00 ceremony on a Friday with a 4:00 reception.  Our venue kind of dictated that time for us.  Their reception times are 4-9 b/c it’s in a semi-residential area.

I’m just thinking…if your ceremony starts at 6, say it takes an hour with getting out of there and pictures, what time would your reception start?  Figuring it’s a 5 hour reception, you’re talking a midnight ending, or later…
