I have been opposed to considering a Friday wedding in the past because I think it’s just more difficult on everyone with Friday being a work day.
However, The venue we want is booked on every Saturday in the month we want.
What are your experiances with Friday weddings? If you had a Friday wedding, were most of your guest able to make it? Would you have preferred a Saturday wedding? It is true, that there is a slight bonus with the cost being slightly less.

We are having a Friday wedding and over 80% of our guests can make it. But that decline rate also includes the +1s we gave to single people, so if they aren’t bringing anyone it still counts as a decline.

Have you thought about a Sunday wedding? More people would be able to make a Sunday than a Friday.
ETA: Just going off friends’ past experiences with Friday weddings and how difficult it was to make it on time.

I have been to a Friday wedding and yes it is more difficult for people to get to (especially if it starts at like 5) but, people will get there. It’s an important day and those who matter will make it and it will probably help get some No’s from people too.

My cousin had a Friday wedding. Everyone in my family went (we mostly all took the day off work) and it was great! I was happy to have an excuse to take a day off to be honest. I think everyone realizes that you save money doing it that way, and I would definitely prefer Friday to a Sunday wedding, because at least you can sleep in the next day.

@LiliKitty: I dont want a daytime wedding at all. So I think Sunday night might be a bit harsh.. especially for those traveling.

One of my friends had a Friday evening black tie wedding.
The Catholic ceremony was at 6:30 pm and the reception began at 8 pm. It was an all night affair and we had a BLAST!
I did take off work a little early so that I could get home and get ready, but I was perfectly fine with it.
If it was a family wedding far away, I always generally arrive on Thursday, anyways, so I’d still make the wedding, just probably not rehearsal dinner.

We had a Friday wedding and it was great, it was $3000 cheaper than a Saturday and it had almost no impact on our guest count. Of all the people we invited we only had 6 people that couldn’t make it and only 3 of those were due to that fact that the wedding was on a Friday.

I had a Friday evening wedding. For my family it was a Destination Wedding. They all came down on Wed and stayed thru Sunday and either drove back or flew back. We got married in FL and so they had a few days vaca at the Beach too.
As for DH’s side, all were local except Father-In-Law. No one took of work, I think most left an hour early. Two of our Groomsmen have Fridays off and work Sundays. We had it start at 6:30pm. No one was late and it went off without a hitch.

@Korenne: I think Friday weddings are fine! I think you may notice more people skipping the ceremony if it starts before 6, but otherwise I think it’s a MILLION times better than a Sunday.

FI’s friend recently had a Friday wedding – and it was the first Friday wedding we’ve attended – and it was fine. However, we did feel a bit scrambled to get ready after work and arrive on time for the 6:30PM ceremony. The cermeony also started 30 mins late, because people kept coming in (late guests – but who could blame them).

I had a friday wedding, ceremony started at 6:30, and for most guests, it wasn’t a problem. It was cheaper for us to do it on a friday and we basically partied most of the night!

@Korenne: We had a Friday wedding! No one had a hard time making it to the wedding, the wedding started at 4, so anyone who couldn’t take the full day off took a half day. Our venue had a 100 guest minimum for Saturdays and our budget only allowed for 90 guests so thats how we ended with a Friday wedding!

I personally don’t like Friday weddings. If its someone I’m close to, I will take a half day of vacation and attend the ceremony. Otherwise, I likely won’t attend, especially if its out of town. I like to use my vacation days for vacations!
PS – This is just my opinion. I have been to several very lovely and fun Friday weddings. I just would not choose to have one myself.

I flew in for a Friday night wedding that started at 5. Those that don’t mind using a vacation day will come.
