Honestly, as a guest, I would just make an effort to be there at the time the invitation tells me to! So I wouldn’t worry about this too much. As a working girl though, it would probably be easier for me to get there at 6:30, so that was my vote.

I would go with 6:30 because of the work issue.  We have a Friday wedding starting at 6:30 and I think we picked a good time for everything to start.

I would probably go for the later time. Then more people will plan to be at the ceremony. Sometimes if people don’t think they can make it in time, they will skip the ceremony and just go to the reception. The extra half hour will let people (or at least get it in their minds) make it on time.

I think no matter what time you start on a Friday, people will have to leave work early to get ready. Ours was last Friday at 5pm (but didn’t start on time either, due to some annoying circumstances) but we only had the venue til 10,locked up by 11:30. In NYC with traffic,I’d guess you’re better off the half hour later, but ‘fashionably late’ is usually 10 minutes. What time will everything end? We had people come at 4 so we served 2 kinds of wine, bottled water and a blue signature drink,so I think some were a tad tipsy by cocktail hour. lol

People will be working on Friday so I think that the later time is better. If they can get off work at 5.00 then they have time to go home and change before the wedding if it’s at 6.30. Would your ceremony still start at 7 if you put 6 on the invite? Because that might be irritating to punctual guests or people who rush to get there. I think half an hour is enough time for stragglers.

I voted for the later time just because of traffic at that time of day. Even if they didn’t work/left work early, 6pm is hard time. That extra half hour could make a huge difference.

i usually work until 6, and i remember from living in nyc that lots of people have a 10-6 schedule to stagger rush hour, so i’d say 6:30.

Yep, I’d definitely go to 6:30, since most people work on Fridays and not everyone can get the day off or leave early.  Back when I lived in NYC I would either get off at 5 or 5:30 (depending on the job), and I think that’s standard to most.

Plus, it’s a Friday night, you want people to stay late and party, no? 🙂

I say 6:30.  People need time to shower and look pretty after working all day.

Okay good deal – I’d still say go with the later time to have less of a chance of late-comers.

Oh, so you are saying 30 minutes earlier than the actual strat time of the wedding?
