We will be having a Friday night wedding with the ceremony starting at 6 pm, next August. I have already ordered our save the dates, and was trying to figure out when to send them out. Most of our guests live within an hour of our venue (ceremony & reception are at the same place). I would say we have maybe 4 guests who are traveling.
I was thinking of sending out our STD’s in December. Is that too early?

Since it’s a work day I’d send it out in December/January. People might be setting up their vacation schedules for the new year then.

I think sending the save the dates out atleast 8-9 months in advance is real good. My wedding will also be on a Friday and that’s the rule I am using. I also don’t have many out of towners planned.

I think December is much too early, especially since most of your guests are close by. I’d let the holidays pass before even thinking of sending them out…. otherwise they might get lost in the holiday card stacks. If you sent them out in mid-January, that’s about 7 months in advance, which is plenty of time. 8-9 months is ideal for an out of town wedding.
