If I were a guest at a Friday evening wedding, I would probably only use the hotel room on Friday night.  I would only need it Thursday if I was planning on taking a full day off work on Friday, and unless it’s family or superclose friend, I probably won’t take a full day off for the wedding.   I guess it depends on how far of a drive your OOT’ers have and how late your reception lasts.

Talk to the hotel–some of them have a minimum, while others will block 10 rooms between a certain range of dates and their only requirement is that 80% of the rooms are booked for at least two nights (without specifying which two nights).

Hotel blocks became a headache for me because different guests had different needs and price points so instead of blocking rooms, I just put a little accommodations card in my invites with the name & number of a travel agent. That way the guests could arrange according to their needs.

It depends on the hotel.  I did a block for 4 days.  If people didn’t want to stay for that long, it was fine.  If people wanted to stay longer they still had the wedding rate.  There wasn’t a big event going on, so there were no issues with the hotel being booked up.

If the hotel doesn’t have a problem with it, block all 3 days.  Many people won’t take all three, but a few probably will.  I know that I wouldn’t want to travel the day of a wedding if I didn’t have to, traveling always tires me out.

If there’s no cost or obligation to you to set aside the hotel rooms, then I would reserve them for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We had our wedding on a Saturday of a long weekend. What we did was block 6 rooms for Thursday and Sunday night, and 12 rooms for Friday and Saturday night. Guests were given until a month before our wedding date to book their rooms, and any rooms that weren’t booked by then went back into the hotel’s inventory so we weren’t obligated to pay for them.

I’d do Th, Fri, Sat just in case.  Your guests don’t have to book all three nights but it would be nice for them to have the discounted rate if they want to stay the weekend.

It depends if it was a city I had interest in seeing. If I do then I would likely fly in Thursday night then fly out Sunday night. If not then I would still fly in Thursday (cheaper airfaare) then fly out Saturday afternoon.
