I had a Thursday wedding and it was great! I was initially a little worried, then I came to WB and became really worried haha. At the end of the day it wasn’t as dramatic as so many bees make it seem. We had a great turnout and no complaints at all!

I had a friday wedding and my ceremony was at 5.  Sure there were a few people who couldn’t make it, but most of those who weren’t there wouldn’t have been able to make it on saturday either. Everyone was really flexible and made whatever arrangements they needed to make to be there.  It’s not like it’s a last minute thing or anything…

@thefuturemrsjrd:  That’s the same deal with us – Friday wedding in Charleston (it’s where Fiance is from and where his immediate family lives, but most of the guests are out of town) and I’m afraid we are still going to get a large turnout!

Our planner said they usually get 85-90% acceptance, regardless of the day!

@GB520:  As a guest, I feel the same way, I would prefer a Friday night wedding with the weekend to recover! lol.  Our friend’s wedding last year was on a Sunday night and I chose to take annual leave on the Monday anyway because the wedding was an hour from home and I knew I’d be exhausted the next day (fibro).  We’re putting off our proper honeymoon a few months so we can save for it but we do plan to go to a spa town a couple of hours drive away for a few nights.  We’re doing a brunch the next day at FH’s parents house and I figure it will be nice to spend some time with everyone who’s come over rather than disappearing on everyone 🙂

I also likethat if you have a church wedding it is a little more flexible on start time than Saturday, instead of having the longer gap, so guests can go to the other reception venue.  Also, for some people I know Saturdays are actually as inconvenient anyway because they work in retail (whether they are a manager or not). I also would rather take a half day on a Friday than take a full day off on Monday due to a Sunday wedding. I also find that a lot of people are more flexible about it and not as dramatic. Saturdays are difficult where I live because most of them want you to have a minimum 100 people or you pay a surcharge, so Friday is the next best option.

We did.  We asked people to arrive at 6:30 and then our ceremony was 6:45.  By 7 p.m. guests had a cocktail in hand 🙂

Fiance and I considered planning our wedding for a Friday (it would have been a quick and intimate wedding with dinner for just our immediate family afterwards), I think a Friday wedding would be perfect especially if it’s out of town that way people can still enjoy the weekend as a “vacation”

@meke:  No way! Our ceremony is at St. Luke’s Chapel (my parents got married there so that was important to me) and the reception is at the Historic Rice Mill which I looooooove and would never have been able to afford on a Saturday.  I’m actually a little terrified that everyone we invite will decide to come because if everyone comes we’re going to go way over budget on food 🙁 but in the end it will all be worth it! What’s your venue?  Everything in Charleston is so beautiful!

@lizzieb:  My planner warned me about that same percentage usually wanting to come to Charleston :-/ it’s good and bad I guess haha I’m a little jealous of your wedding date – October in Charleston is gorgeous! We got engaged in August and I was too impatient to have the wedding in the fall – I’m already regretting having it in April because it seems so far away so I guess it’s good I didn’t try to do it any later lol

@thefuturemrsjrd:  Historic Rice Mill is beautiful, definitely out of my budget, but I think that is an awesome venue otherwise!

We are getting married at Magnolia Plantation, it was the only venue we looked at.  I had looked at others online, but I knew that before I got engaged that is where I wanted to get married, it is just so beautiful!  We actually wanted to get married in April, the sooner the better, but they only had Easter Sunday and the weekend of the Cooper River Bridge Run available, both were big no’s.  May 9 was the first available date, so we jumped on that immediately.

@meke:  I love love love Magnolia Plantation.  It’s going to be amazing! I wanted to look there but my mom is 100% against anything outdoors because she’s been to like two weddings where it rained and she was miserable. So we were sortof stuck looking at enclosed venues, but in the end I’m happy how it turned out 🙂 Definitely post a recap after your wedding – the pictures will be incredible I’m sure!!

While I have not being a guest at a Friday wedding, I believe and know that it works just fine. My husband and I first got married on a Friday at a court house and had a party at his mom’s house with friends and family.

Now we’ll be having our church wedding also on a Friday because it will be on our 6th wedding anniversary which will also fall on a Friday (My favorite day of the week)

@thefuturemrsjrd:  Well, I got engaged in October of ’11, so I feel your pain! We were looking at the last weekend in March, but got thwarted by a deployment.

We are actually late enough – can’t have the ceremony until 6 at Legare Waring anyway…but I don’t think it’s gonna make a difference anyway.

I will be waiting for those photos too! Our planners work at Magnolia a lot, but my Fiance didn’t want to be that far from downtown.

I am a tiny bit worried about rain because the weather was so finicky while were there a few weeks ago…but that’s what a plan B is for, I guess!

Friends of ours had a friday wedding. They did an early wedding with just 11 of us and then had a cocktail party in the evening and lots of people came out to it!

Oh my goodness ladies, we are definitely worried about the weather.  It has not rained on a May 9th, in Charleston for I think it was 7-8 years, so I’m hoping the trend continues because we have no backup!!  Guess we will have to rent tents and hope for no diagonal rain since the reception is on the veranda of the plantation home.  So all out doors!

But one of my main reasons for going there was for the pictures, I knew we could have wonderful pictures as the gardens should be in full bloom!
