Our ceremony will start at 3:30, with the cocktail hour from 5-6 and dinner/reception from 6-10.. Ours also is on a holiday though, so it’s why we’re having it a bit earlier..

Same timeline as @UpstateCait: with ceremony starting at 5:30pm.

We chose that time because we were hoping to have an outdoor ceremony & cocktail hour, and the sun set at about 6:30 that time of year.  Ended up pouring, so no outdoor festivities.

It worked out fine, except that a LOT of people missed the ceremony.  (I had no clue at the time, but so many people apologized later – I would have preferred they kept their mouths shut!)

We started ours at 2pm, but our reception wasn’t until the next day.  😛  We knew in planning it though that the people we were inviting to the ceremony either wouldn’t have a problem taking friday off (for the few people that worked) or were retired/didn’t work, or were flying in and taking time off anyway.  It worked well for us.

We’re doing a 4pm ceremony; 6:30 small family dinner (mostly for the 4 grandparents who won’t enjoy our style of food and late night partying, and since we don’t want to cater to them at the expense of the rest we are having sort of 2 receptions to please everyone :)); 8:30 start cocktail/ hors d’oevres reception; 10:30 band; midnight burger buffet; resume band till 2:30! 🙂

We are actually starting the ceremony at Noon and the reception at 4pm.  I know I know most of our guest will have to take off of work but if they really are behind me and my Fiance they will take off OR people will just come to the reception.  We came up with this time because I want to take pictures outside during the day.

Just went to a wedding last Friday that started at 5, cocktail hour right after. I would have preferred it to start a little later so I wouldnt have to take any time off from work, but it really wasnt a big deal. If you are doing it in the DC area, you want to keep traffic in mind!

@NJmeetsBX: Our Friday wedding will start at 6 pm and end at 11 pm. I didn’t want to start too early since several of our guests will have to take the afternoon off work (at the very least) and drive to the venue.

We are having the ceremony at 7:30 and the reception from 8-12. The ceremony will be outside, in July, so we wanted to make it as late and quick as possible. My mom insisted it had to be on the upside of the hour for good luck or something like that.

Ceremony: 4:30 PM

Cocktail Hour: 5:00 PM

Reception: 6:00 PM

I had wanted to start the ceremony at 5pm.  However, the venue (who does weddings all the time) said it wasn’t a good idea.  So I listened and we’re doing 4:30 PM.

We got married at 4:15 on 4/15!  Cocktail hour was 4:45-6 and the reception was 6-10.  No one seemed to mind the time!
