One of FI’s friends had agreed to DJ our reception as his gifts to us. He’s a professional DJ, so I was psyched to have his services, and Fiance and I both thought it was a wonderful gift. He agreed to this a month ago, and has known the wedding date since a bit before then.
We had previously set up a meeting (scheduled to happen on Saturday) with a local DJ, but I cancelled it after the friend offered to be our DJ.
Today, Fiance tells me that the friend called to say he can’t come to our wedding, because he has a family wedding that same weekend. Wh-what?! Fiance is acting like it’s no big deal, but as far as I’m concerned, this friend has done us a major wrong!
I’m in the process of trying to contact the original DJ to see if he’s still available, but since we’re getting married on a holiday weekend, who knows. But I’m so made at FI’s friend! And I don’t understand why Fiance isn’t. Am I overreacting?

mmm i think you may be overreacting a tad. but i do understand your frustrations. this totally is FI’s friend’s bad. But at the same time, the DJ is by no means the backbone to any wedding. I don’t think it would be terribly hard to find another DJ. Best of luck to you!
p.s. how does the dude not know that he has a family wedding the same day?! guys! sigh!

Thanks. I’m sure I am overreacting a bit. I know part of it is due to the fact that we’re getting married in a city that isn’t exactly thriving with DJ options… and the guy we were going to go with was giving us an awesome and budget friendly deal. It looks like we’ll be shelling out at least twice that now 🙁
I think I’m also mad at myself. I had a gut feeling this would end badly and asked Fiance at least three times if the friend was sure he would be there before I finally cancelled with the local DJ. I guess I’ll listen to myself from now on.

awww don’t be so hard on yourself! its not your fault—the guy gave you his word–and to some people—it means nothing! boo on them!

I’d be super upset too… esp b/c he didn’t ask if it was ok. He just dropped his obligation like it was no big deal!
