Gift card for a restaurant in their area where they can get a takeout meal. The first few weeks are very tiring. They will bless you for your thoughtfulness. Send a gift for the baby later.

Did she register anywhere?  Babies R Us has a good registry – they’ll ship straight to her!  Check around there or call her and just ask (or maybe a friend or relative?).  Just like a wedding, there’s stuff she’ll need and would appreciate.  If you can’t find a registry, I read a good article that suggested maybe a gift cert from a cleaning service for a one time visit, or a healthy meal or two delivered to her so she doesn’t have to go out or cook?  If she isn’t using cloth diapers are always appreciated, too.

I’m a buy from the registry person, but I also love cute baby things.  Babies need lots of clothes, so maybe something in a little bigger size, since she probably has what she needs for now (like a 3-6mo, depending how big the baby was).

I agree that a gift card to a restaurant would be super helpful! Also, a gift card to walmart or some other store so they could pick up something that they need for the baby etc…

If she had a boy, I recommend sending the book “I’ll Love You Forever”, this is my go to book to give mom’s of sons, it’s awesome!!!

When my friend had her baby, I also sent flowers that had a special significance to us (tulips, because she had helped me and my children plant them in our garden) – in the card, I wrote that someday she and her son could plant tulips together…

I like the PP’s advice of useful gifts, like restaurants, cleaning services, etc. That would be awesome for a new mommy!

My friend that recently had a baby said she’d most appreciate diapers.  A mutual friend sent her baby wipes from Costco (ordered and shipped online)… tons and tons of wipes in that pack … if you want to go the ‘practical’ route.

I would veto the gift card. I was too stressed and sore after having my daughter to go anywhere. The best gift I received at my shower was a basket of things you never think of until you need them: baby tylenol, desitin, baby vicks vapo rub, thermometer…basically a little medicine kit. I’d say that or a gift card for wal mart/target and specify it’s to buy diapers. That plus a nice card. I appreciated people giving anything, like flowers, but it wasn’t very useful. I wanted practical things.

I agree with practical things. My LO isnt born yet, but I’d get more use out of diapers, a gift card etc than I would flowers. Good luck 🙂

Agree with gift cards for diapers and baby necessities (just double check that she actually has that store nearby!).

I would first check though if she had a registry then look to buy stuff off there that still have not been purchased if you want to buy something physical.

I’m sure she would appreciate anything you send just for the pure thought of thinking of her! 🙂
