She told me not to visit, I listened, and she never forgave me for it.

Yes, this.

Go there, as confronting and upsetting it is you don’t want to regret it after he passes.

Sorry you are going through this 🙁

A card would be nice. My best friend died recently after a short battle with cancer as well. It was awful. Her oncologist gave her a card once and she absolutely loved it. It said “Fuck cancer.” on the outside and the doctor wrote a nice personal message inside. It was a small thing but very meaningful to her. Reaching out and sending your support and love is a bigger thing than you might imagine.

All the best.

A card and a treat sound like a great choice for now. Your friend will need a lot of support moving forward. Keep in touch with her. Hugs.

One more piece of advice from someone who has recently been through a similar situatuon… If you do go (as many people have suggested) please be prepared for what you might arrive to. I literally watched my friend die. And it was awful. I’m glad I could be there for her (and her husband as it was hardest on him) but it definitely wasn’t easy. Do your friends have children? If so, perhaps there’s something you could do for them? There’s no right answer for what you should do here. It’s a tough situation for everyone. Sending many virtual hugs!
