Up until yesterday, I had my photographer picked out for my wedding. We were friends from high school and she offered me a good discounted price, however, she’s moving across the country to persue other things. Which, I am happy for her because it’s what she’s always wanted.
I have another friend who has just opened up her own photography business and needs clients. I want to ask her, but I don’t want her to miss all the “fun” of the actual wedding and reception.
Did any of you have friends take your pictures? Did they enjoy the wedding as much as anyone else?

I shot my friend’s wedding this year, and it was a blast! I got to hang out with her and the bridal party all day, which was really fun, plus I got to see all the intimate moments of the day that you miss out on if you’re just a regular guest. I would just talk to her about it and see how she feels!

Another perspective–I have taken photos at a couple of friends’ weddings. I like being able to spend time with the bride and groom…but basically, being the photog means no drinking or dancing at the reception, as you are in a professional role. So it does cut down on the fun of being a regular guest. Definitely see how she feels. She would probably like the chance to get some shots for her portfolio, so you could hire a full-time photog and have your friend second-shoot the preparations/ceremony, and/or do a TTD at a later date.

I shot a friends wedding earlier this year and it was a blast! They actually had a student photographer shoot their reception which was awesome for me because I got to hang out and enjoy myself. That might be an option?
