pbj1453 :  I imagine you are correct that these features make a difference, but they may not go in entirely in the direction you think. My understanding of the literature on social isolation (a reasearch area I’ve interacted with) is that peopel in coastal cities have more contact with their friends and report denser friendship networks than people elsewhere (perhaps because they tend to have less contact points with family).
