My fiance and I live in Australia and we are going to plan our wedding in Ontario – no further than 1.5 – 2 hours out of Toronto. As I haven’t lived in Canada for 5 years now and he is Australian – we need help with venues! He is interested in getting married in Niagara Falls/ Niagara on the Lake, while I am looking for more of a cottage country venue (something on the lake).
Any suggestions would be helpful as we are flying home in a week and would like to take a look at some potential spots.
Thanks in advance!

Well a good place to start is budget. How much do you guys want to spend on your venue? Niagra during the summer months is sought after and probably expensive. Try to find some where that has a tent already set up, tent rentals are thousands of dollars ontop of chairs, linens etc.
Niaraga on the Lake area: My friends got married at Kurtz Orchards (it was stunnnnning!). There is also Vineland Estates and a few more I’m unfamiliar with.
This site http://www.vineyardbride.ca/niagara-weddings/ has tons of real wedding inspiration from around the Niagra area.
Holland Marsh Wineries is another gorgeous venue closer to cottage country.
As for cottage country there are quite a few places up in Muskoka (Deerhurst, Windermere House, Patterson Kaye) for weddings as well as Lake Simcoe.
Near Missisauga is Holcium Estate (on the lake, very pretty) as well as Geraldo’s on the Park in Burlington (right near the water also).
There are also some lovely places around Toronto that are natural and woodsey enough that you feel don’t feel like you’re downtown (Miller Lash House, Doctors House, Sunny Brook Estates, Hunt Club etc, Black Creek Pioneer village has a cool open air wedding reception space, Evergreen Brick Works).

I attended a wedding at Sue Ann Staff winery this summer and it was wonderful. The ceremony was outside in front of a pond and the reception took place in a tent.

I suggest this Facebook Group, the women in there are all GTA based for the most part and have a wealth of specific locational knowledge that will probably be more useful than this wider group:
