It really all depends on your SO and what he may have planned.  I found out my SO bought me a ring back in February.  It is now August and I am still waiting 🙁

My SO had it in his posesison for less than a month. But we designed it for a month, then he recieved it a few weeks before he proposed.

My Fiance had it for about 3 months before proposing, but I had no idea he even had the ring until he proposed.

He’s never surprised me with a gift but somehow kept that secret for 2 months!

He purchased it, it arrived, and he proposed the next day.

My fiance had it for a few months (I wasn’t supposed to know), he was waiting to propose over a big trip we had planned. After we got engaged he told me where it had been hiding in our apartment, and how hard it was for him to not just bust it out and ask me in our apartment.

I honestly never realized it was so common for women to know when their partner has purchased the ring until I came on the bee. The waiting would drive me insane (sorry I know that’s not a helpful comment, I just really never realized this was a thing).

Mine purchased it about two months before proposing (porposed June 30th), but I did not know about it. I actually thought he might have already had a ring a year ago. But he started making appointments with the jeweler and looking at pieces around March.

It’s funny because I actually did think he already had a ring last year because when we were home for my brother’s wedding in April my other sister in law had asked him when we were getting engaged and he told her there would be an announcement coming up, don’t worry..”coming up” is pretty vague though and we have no real reason we need to hurry up and get it done so I had no idea when to expect he would actually do it.

He bought the ring in June. Still waiting. I would be shocked if I received it before the fall.

I’m not sure of the exact timing that he actually picked up the ring. I know he was in the planning/designing stage in October (this was in 2013 lol) and I think he actually had the ring in hand towards the end of November. He ended up proposing in March. He said he wanted to get Christmas and Valentines out of the way first because he didn’t want to propose during the time everyone else seems to get engaged. He wanted it to be a completely random time with no other significance.

About 2 months. He wanted to do it earlier but had to wait until the wine harvest was over.
