So, we got married last month! WOOHOOOO
We have so many reasons to wait another year to begin TTC. The worst part is that theyre all good reasons! We’re ready mentally to start trying now, Im ready physically(In the best shape of my life)… but logistically and geographicaly we need to wait….
SO… I cant find in my extensive google search : How soon should I start taking prenatals with Folic? Do I NEED to get blood work done? Im in Canada and have access to all of these things easily.
What did you do in the year before TTC to prepare?

Right now I am in the prepping for TTC phase. So far I have quit smoking, dramatically curbed my drinking. Been taking prenatals for over a year now and takung Maca Powder. I also am seeing a naturopth and doing accupuncture. I will be going off the pill at the end of October, and plan to do a cleanse.
I’m told I’m overdoing it a little….but there is no such thing as TOO prepared in my mind!

Congrats on getting married! I know that the waiting zone is tough but I bet the year will fly by and you will enjoy your time spent as a couple. I started my prenatals 3 months early and I going to start TTC next month. I can’t remember if my doctor said to start 3 months early or if that was just exactly how much time i had between seeing her and starting to try. I would just go to your yearly check-up and let your Dr. know you also want to do a pre-conception check-up. I think the blood work will just depend on your health history and if your doctor thnks it may be necessary. Good luck!

You should start taking prenatals and folic acid a few months before stopping birth control. Blood work isn’t really helpful unless you’ve been off birth control for at least 3 months. There’s not much else you can do 🙂

Congrats! I am in the same boat. We got married in July and I am totally ready to start TTC, but we need to wait a bit because next summer would not be a good time for us to have a baby. I’m in my mid 30s so I’m pretty eager and concerned that it might take some work to actually get pregnant. While I wait I’m trying to focus on getting my body ready to be pregnant. I’ve read that 3 months out is a good time to start with the prenatals, but there is no harm in taking them sooner. Good luck with the wait and know that you are not alone!
