- Wedding: October 2011
So, we haven’t been having much luck with our mail. A few months ago, FedEx lost our invitations. This week, FI’s wedding ring got sent to our old address, which is in the same apartment complex that we live in now. Totally our fault — our addresses are identical, except for the apartment number, and Fiance didn’t double check before he ordered his ring through Etsy.
We sent a message to the Etsy seller to ask for tracking for the ring, and she said that it arrived on Sept. 1st, and she gave us tracking — which is when we realized that we screwed up the address. Fiance went over to our old place, knocked on the door. No one answered. He went to the apartment office and let them know what happened. The office said that the guy that lives there is usually pretty good about getting in touch with them, so they called him and left him a message to let him know what happened.
The guy calls back later that afternoon and says that he has the package, but he has a 3pm class that is 3 hours, and he might not be able to get back to the apartment complex in time to drop the ring off while the office is still open — but if he can’t, he’ll put the package in the rent drop box so we can pick it up in the morning.
So we double check with the office before it closes, and they haven’t seen anything. Fiance goes up to the office this morning, and they aren’t open, but one of the maintenance guys is there, and he says that it wasn’t dropped off last night, and they still don’t have it. Fiance knocks on the neighbor’s door, and no one answers.
Fiance is going to call the office up when they open at 9am and ask that they call the guy back and let them know if we don’t receive it by the end of the day, he’s going to call the cops. (Which I really hope it doesn’t come down to. I kind of don’t even want to threaten to call them, because I don’t know what kind of person this guy is, and I don’t know if he’ll be even less helpful after we threaten him?)
I don’t even know what our options are, if we don’t get it back? I mean, we screwed up the address, but the package was in FI’s name, and he held onto it for a week without letting the office know or returning the package to sender. Plus tracking says that it was sent to his address and he received it (though he didn’t sign for it), plus he told the office that he had it.
I’m hoping that the guy had class, figured he wouldn’t be back in time for the office to still be open, went out to grab dinner, came home and completely forgot to drop the ring off in the apartment’s drop box.
So, now we’re just kind of waiting.
What would you do?
