I know how you feel.  I am out of a job right now and every interview I have gotten, I have been up against hundreds of people.  I know it’s a bit different than what you are saying but there are probably a ton of people with your level of experience or less looking for jobs.  Also, a lot of employers don’t really look too closely at interviewers who are overqualified because they are afraid that they won’t be happy with the job.  Just keep applying everywhere you can and something will come through.

I have been looking (not steadily though) since January.  I’ve gotten 1 in-person interview and 2 phone interviews..all three lead nowhere.  I have applied for jobs that start about 30K less than what I was making, I’ve applied for part time positions, contract jobs.  I have multiple resumes that I use that are tailored to what job I am posting for.

It’s not you, its just the market along with where you live.  When I lived in San Francisco I was going on mulitple interviews a week, here in Boston..nada.

I have a motto..you won’t find the job…the job finds you.  Keep applying, eventually you will find something.

I am just about to finish nursing school, and the nursing job market (despite the nursing shortage) SUCKS. No one in my class has a job. There was a job fair two weeks ago and two British Columbian health authorities didn’t even bother to show up, that is how bad the job market for RNs is. The one health authority that did was mobbed with people and applications.

I may have to be unemployed for a few months before the market turns around. I have talked to lots of nurses, and they say this situation happens all the time in nursing. The health authorities claim there is no money to hire anyone, the shortage gets worse, then there is a mass hiring a few months later because the hospitals simply can’t function.

So keep your chin up! I know you are not in nursing, but I do know how frustrating it is to look for jobs.

I had an interview on Thursday too!  What a weird coincidence!  Maybe he meant next Monday even though he didn’t say it?  Or they might have had a meeting late today so they didn’t have time to call.  I would wait at least a week before contacting him again.
