I have seen alot of full figure women in empire waist and it looked great, but like every other dress it will depends on how you are specifically built.  I would suggest trying on one and maybe a few other styles.  Styles I though would look fab on me didn’t and styles I thought would be horrible ended up looking great.

I’m a street size 18, dress size 20 and I’m 5’8.  Here are a couple pictures of dresses I tried on.  The first one was my 2nd choice dress.

I think it depends on your shape. I am more apple shaped with a thick waist and I know this look would not work for me, or pear shaped ladies. If you are an hourglass or inverted triangle shape (top heavy), you would probably look pretty good.

@aprose: Thank you! I tried on a bunch of dresses and kept going back to the empire waist (ended up with my Snow White ballgown that I love!).  I think it’s a really flattering shape because it hid my tummy and gave me more of an hourglass shape, which I’m not really, I’m more square.   And I love those dresses you posted! I say go for it 🙂

Hmm I have a only one of me in an empire waist.

And one that is sort of like an empire that I find much more attractive on me: (please ignore my bra straps I discovered a store just opening and had to stop)

@secondchances: I think that first dress you posted is the same as the second one I tried on. I saw someone else with pictures of that dress too, must be a popular one 🙂

@redhead46: & @secondchances: How funny, we all tried on the same dress! Well, for the OP and for comparisons sake, here’s me in the same dress. Just for the record, I did not like how I looked in this dress:

@aprose: like others have said…it depends on your body shape. where do you carry most your weight? I am a street size 16/18 and carry my weight very evenly. I looked pregnant in the type of dresses you posted above. I ended up with an A line..its what worked for my body the most. Unfortuantly I dont have pictures of me in any of the empire waist dresses

I am an inverted triangle and empire is my go to. I agree that it depends on your body shape.
