Just ignore her!  (Although the baby crib lady sounds a bit crazy, so I’d be annoyed with that!)

OMG that is a horrible thing for your boss to say. Please don’t take it to heart, she is probably one of those people who makes themselves feel better by making everyone else around her miserable.

As a former, senior-level manager, I can tell you that your boss was totally out of line for SO many reasons to make a remark such as that.  She was being thoughtless, insensitive, and unprofessional.

However, I think the best thing you can do at this point is to allow yourself a very brief bit of time (i.e. today) to be upset at what happened and then make a deliberate choice to move on and forget about it.  Nothing your boss said makes you look silly.  Sadly, it just makes her look insensitive and crass.

Some people don’t know how to have normal social interactions.  She was probably trying to be friendly.  If I had a good relationship with someone I’d make fun of them for looking at wedding dresses without a ring.  But not someone I didn’t know well.

I work with this guy who’s idea of trying to make friends with the girls at work is complaining about what his wife wears to bed, her taste in clothes, and telling me how he takes her shopping and tries to get her sexier clothes.  NOT APPROPRIATE WE ARE NOT FRIENDS – Talk to her!  He has to be told, though – he thinks that’s how friends interact.

I hate to be Debbie Downer, and I agree that your boss didn’t handle the situation very professionally, but I’m amazed at the level of knowledge about everything bridal that some people have. Some of you young women know way, way more about dresses and stuff than I do and I’ve been married before! Perhaps your boss was trying to express something similar and it just rubbed you the wrong way?

@mrssoontobeh:  OMg don’t start me on fabrics, silloettes, lace and beading terminology. I know way too much Bridal vocab.
