Are you looking for more modern dance songs or more traditional, older songs?  Even if the song has a explective, there is always a “clean” version or radio version out there somewhere.

Talk to your dj and see what they have. Alot of radio edit versions have to be modified for all audiences listening so they are “clean” compared to their original versions but are still sung by the same original artist.

Kelly Clarkson has several upbeat songs that don’t have bad language.

“Looking For A Good Time” by Lady Antebellum

Your dj should have a list of songs in their files for you to review.  We did that and made sure we crossed out anything with explicit lyrics.  If there was a song we liked, we asked if they had a radio edit that could be played instead.

I’m a DJ prepping for a wedding where the bride and groom met while doing missionary work. No profanity is their biggest concern. I’m going so far as to leave out censored songs aka clean versions with the profanity sanitized with production tricks. Also, songs where adultery and excesses like drug abuse have been avoided.

Still, there are a lot of songs to choose from. It is made easier by the fact that weddings include multiple generations meaning you can find a little from each generation and still have a great time!

— Modern Hits —

Grenade – Bruno Mars

Firework – Katy Perry

Fallin’ For You – Colbie Caillat

Marry Me – Train

Hey, Soul Sister – Train

Drops of Jupiter – Train

Evacuate the Dancefloor – Cascada

Telephone – Lady Gaga

Fire Burning – Sean Kingston

Are You Gonna Be My Girl – Jet

— From Recent Decades (90-00)

Jump Jive an Wail – Brian Setzer

All She Wants To Do Is Dance – Don Henley

Gonna Make You Sweat – C&C Music Factory

Vogue – Madonna

The Power – Snap!

I Can’t Dance – Genesis

Don’t Turn Around – Ace of Base

Hard to Handle – The Black Crowes (caution – adultery theme, but no profanity)

Where Do You Go – No Mercy

Electric Avenue – Eddie Grant

— 80’s —

Billie Jean – Michael Jackson

Beat It – Michael Jackson

I’m Too Sexy – Right Said Fred

What I Like About You – The Romantics

Walk Like an Egyptian – The Bangles

Freeway of Love – Aretha Franklin

Mony Mony – Billy Idol

Whip It! – Devo

Electric Avenue – Eddie Grant

Heart of Glass – Blondie (’78 technically)

— Disco —

I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor (Definitely not the Cake cover though)

Stayin’ Alive – Bee Gees

Celebration – Kool & The Gang

Funky Town – Wild Cherry

Rock With You – Michael Jackson

Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough – Michael Jackson

I’m So Excited – Pointer Sisters

Last Dance – Donna Summer

Car Wash – Rose Royce

Good Times – Chic

Boogie Wonderland – Earth, Wind & Fire

The Dazz Band – Let It Whip

— Oldies —

Jump In The Line – Harry Belafonte

The Loco-motion – Little Eva

The Twist – Chubby Checker

Twist & Shout – The Beatles

Pretty Woman – Roy Orbison

Johnny B. Goode – Chuck Berry

Dancing In The Streets – Martha & The Vandellas

Sway – Dean Martin (much better than Micheal Buble’s version)

Not enough? Try this – Go to youtube and search for the type of music you’re looking for – broad categories like “90’s” – add the word “Dance” – search, then filter results to playlists. You’ll find a lot removed due to copyright violations, but you’ll also find a lot of songs you didn’t know the names of or you had forgotten about.

If you’re trying to find songs for one or a few people older than you and don’t know what their favorite songs were, calculate when they were in high school and look up hits from those years. String the top three together and make sure the DJ knows who they’re intended for so he can make sure they aren’t taking a restroom break or something when “their songs” play.

Also remember to include line dances – these are great for single people

And lastly, make sure to include slow songs. I didn’t bother listing the slow songs above because there usually is not an issue with those being clean.
