My fiance and I are doing a west coast road trip for our honeymoon and will start it with 2 nights in LA. Can anyone recommend any fun hotels that are fairly affordable? We’re pretty flexible, we could fall in love with a funky boutique hotel or a cozy inn, as long as it’s unique.

Gosh, maybe either of The Standard hotels (either on Sunset or downtown)? Don’t know if you’re into the mod-retro-my-bathroom-has-glass-walls thing. They’re not at all cozy but definitely "funky," and either will put you right at an LA "scene" with their pool/bar areas. Same with The W in Westwood; the lobby’s got a hip club vibe and you can walk to restaurants in Westwood.
Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica is conveniently located and very romantic but rather pricey.
Sorry, I feel like I should know more about hotels; I don’t know any cute B&Bs to direct you to. One of my favorite hotels is the Surf and Sand in Laguna Niguel, which is not in LA and I would never call it "affordable."

The Standard Downtown is affordable with a great scene on their rooftop bar. You can check out Custom (by LAX), Figueroa (Downtown), Mason 180 (Bev Hills), Chamberlian (Hollywood, right off the Sunset Strip), The Huntley (Santa Monica).
These are all super hip / nice, and are relatively affordable.

if you want to stay in a boutique hotel i would check out this website:
it may be pricey, but you can at least get the name of kewl hotels and then search for cheaper rooms. Hotel Sofitel in Beverly Hills is new, and since it’s your honeymoon, you can always ask to get an upgrade.

This is not in LA, but it is in the metro area, thus it is less expensive:
The pictures on the website are great, but it is even better in person!

The Grafton on Sunset, it’s a little boutique right in the heart of Hollywood, it’s not as nice as the standard but modern and has the LA Vibe and usually $100 per night less!
