    @Minutiae:

    I was afraid my comment may be taken out of context and misinterpreted. I’m not in any way implying having lots of children means someone’s poor and dumb. I was just making an observation on how it’s different in my culture vs the US, at least based on WB polls.

    @meliss: I know, that’s why that part was in parentheses! People do think that, unfortunately. What country/culture are you from?

    @BanditGirl: How far apart are your children and how old are they?  I’m curious because I want 3/4 kids but I also want to be done by age 30!  I’m getting married at 21 (almost 22) and I want to wait at least 2 years before having kids.

    OK, I just wanted to make sure I didn’t accidentally offend you or anyone else 🙂 I’m Turkish.

    If I could somehow guarantee genders I’d want 4 – 2 girls and 2 boys.  Independent of gender, I think I’d ideally have 2-3.

    Well, it’s still up in the air right now, but we have been saying 4 – 2 girls, 2 boys.  If we hit 3 of one gender that could change things.  And we may not want that many when we start TTC anyhow.

    I just want to know if the OP ever starts a “serious” poll, or maybe a “angry” poll or even a “boring” poll…  😉

    To answer the question, though, 2.  Never let them outnumber you.

    My partner has always said that he wanted “kids” (multiple- 2+ etc) but now that we have a rampaging 4 year old, who takes an awful lot of time & energy on his own, he is less sure about having more & has been talking about the ins and outs of vasectomies lately.

    I am still on the fence, though ideally (ya know if I didn’t have to go through the whole pregnancy & delivery bit) I would like to have 2 children (of opposite genders), however life rarely goes exactly as we plan it.

    If we have more we would probably stop at two, though I am about 75% certain we are only going to be having the one.

    @Socrates:

    Now I have to go Google the rhythm method because I feel ignorant!
