iarebridezilla:  Well I think it’s a totally legit contingency!

Rhopalocera:  Eh.  I think the universe has a way of working itself out.  Maybe by saving a baby I save the ancestor of an evil dictator or maybe it’s just a baby who’s line dies out in two generations.  Odds are I will not have a big enough impact to drastically change things.  Even if I explained how steam engines or airplanes or rockets worked, it doesn’t mean that people will start flying 200 years early. There is so much other technology that goes along with major inventions that it wouldn’t happen.  Andvances in medicine might have an impact but I’m not convinced itd be a negative one. And if I can teach proper conservation techniques I could almost guarantee we’d all be better for it. Not everything needs to be learned by trial and error.

Before you even mentioned Outlander my response was going to be ‘Find Jamie Frasier.’

iarebridezilla:  Haha, I forgot about becoming and epic story teller! That could be a thing right?

Also probably time to research different alloys and smelting techniques… I should go find my materials science engineering book….

Actually what I should do is stock my kindle, get a solar battery, and just keep them on me at all times.  Also I should invest in a random piece of gold jewelry I could sell to get some quick cash (I have a friend who does this – apparently it’s a thing in India?). Man, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks about these things.

iarebridezilla:  for anyone saying they wouldn’t want to change history, isn’t it kind of like unavoidable? I mean if I got sent back in time, the simple fact that I’m even there changes history even in a slight way. Any thing or person I came in contact with would be changed from what was originally supposed to have happened. It’s crazy to think of it that way but it’s true. If I even so much as spoke to someone, that right there changes their life as it was originally supposed to be. In their original life path I would have never been part of it.

I have thought about this before lol. I actually got into a very heated debate about this with my boyfriend. There is no way to go back in time without changing history even in a slight way. No matter what there’s a ripple that shouldn’t be there.

stardustintheeyes:  OR…

If we look at time as more linear, without alternate universes, you wouldn’t be changing history, you would just be making sure that what had already happened actually happened.  It would be less Back to the Future and more Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.  Marty changed his present by affecting the past.  Harry assured his present remained the same by going back in time to save himself.

… Or we just go with time travel is bad.  Don’t do it.

Apple_Blossom:  My brain hurts now 🙁

iarebridezilla:  Now that’s a scary plan. Not so much the part about the atomic bomb, but more about the possibility of me ruling the world. lol
