One way we are thinking of breaking the news when we get our BFP:

Sending a baby floral arrangement to our folks. Then Skyping with them around the delivery time to see their faces. πŸ™‚

Mind you, we are 12 hours driving distance away. It will be FI’s parents first grandchild. I want to do something special!

Most floral shops deliver within a couple hours, so it shouldn’t be hard to pull off.

I don’t think we will be able to wait more than a couple of hours to announce. My parents really want grandbaby #2. And FI’s parents just want a grandbaby…period (they’ve truly waited long enough!)

I’ve thought about singing telegrammers too… for a fun goofy effect (while Skyping again of course).

I always tell people about wraping the pregnancy test as a gift and give it to the parents. Or maybe wraping a little baby “I love my grandpa shirt” or something your parents like, something like a baby jersey from their favority baseball team, and give it to them as a gift, instructing them they’ll have to pass it out in 9 months.

@Coffee cup:  That’s exactly what we did!  We announced our pregnancy to our famliies on Christmas by “gifting” each of our mothers with a digital pregnancy test with a “pregnant” result on the screen.

my mother sent a single baby shoe (I guess sock works as well) to the parents, with a note just saying: love, my moms name and my dads. When my grandmother called to ask what this was about she told her.

This way she could hear her reaction, but also made her curious the whole day and was telling her in a kind of unconventional way.

my cousins are adopted, and my aunt and uncle had been going through the process for a while. they finally had been matched with a birth mom, but didnt tell anyone. when we woke up one morning there were pink balloons on our front porch with a note that said “welcome cousins name” it was 16 years ago so there were no cells phones, so my family spent the day going crazy waiting to hear from her after she got home from picking up the new baby. it was adorable! just had to share even though it is an adoption story! πŸ™‚

I was thinking we would send our close family members (parents, brothers, sisters) pink and blue baloon arrangements. I may be too cheap for that, though. πŸ™‚

My cousin took a picture of a bun in her oven (literally) and put it up as her Facebook profile picture; I liked that she didn’t explain it. She made people figure it out on their own. πŸ˜‰

My BIL/SIL for their daughter showed the sonogram of the baby. The 2nd time around here they gave my Father-In-Law a belated birthday card and signed all there names then a question mark for another baby. And how my SIL announced it on FB was she had pictures of pumpkins around Halloween and they were expecting a new little pumpkin.

For us we just pretty much were asked our parents how they felt about becoming grandparents again.  (we don’t have other kids but each set of parents have other grandkids)

I saw something cute/funny on pinterest… the couple took a picture with a can of “prego” spaghetti sauce! If I can find the link again I will post it πŸ™‚

Ahhh!!  I love the “bun in the oven” and “prego” pasta sauce ideas!!  I may have to do a combo of the two when we make the official facebook announcement in a week or two!

A lady at work dressed up for halloween as an oven. When you opened the door to the cardboard oven there was a picture of a bun on her shirt! It was super cute πŸ™‚

We announced to DH’s family at Christmas by way of a framed, wrapped poem slipped under the tree during our Yankee Swap:

I do not have a face to see,
Or put inside a frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss,
I don’t yet have a name.
You can’t yet hold my tiny hands,
Nor whisper in my ear.
It’s still too soon to sing a song,
Or cuddle me so near.
But all will change come August,
That’s when they say I’m due.
I’m the littlest McK,
I can’t wait till I meet you.
All I ask between now and then,
Is your patience while I grow.
I promise I’ll be worth the wait,
Because of all the love we’ll know.
So what I have to give you now,
Is a wish to you from me.
I cannot wait to be a part
Of this wonderful family!
