Grrrrrrr……kidding about the furious part.
I am the type of person that likes being “different.” Anytime something becomes a trend, I instantly gravitate away from it. I LOVED the idea of STD magnets 5 years ago, before engagement. Then, when the time arrived, it was such a hot trend, I did not want to do the same ol, same ol.
Well about 10 years ago, I was watching A Wedding Story and saw a lovely gown with lace, sparkly sleeves, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I have toyed with other styles, including Renaissance (think “Just Breathe”), but balked at it being too heavy and turn of the century old fashioned. But, I always came back to the lacy sleeves.
Now, it is going to be a trend, darn it! The top have of the dress is EXACTLY what I envisioned for my wedding dress, except add lots of bling to the sleeves. Now, if I go with it, it will seem like I am a copycat, copying off of Catherine. Plus, there is NO way, I would ever look as stunning as she did.
Thanks Kate….thanks a lot!

I’ve seen a couple brides with lace sleeves. It’s a pretty classic dress, and can easily be altered with a sash or touches of bright color. Step away from the ledge! lol

get over it. and do what you like.

i say do it anyway! 🙂 i’ve always loved sleeves too, and i think it was a given that she would wear sleeves, i think her dress was very predictable, so make yours you! you cant stop trends from happening but only certain people can pull off the long sleeves so i say go for it!

I had lace sleeves on mine… Don’t worry, it’s not going to be that big of a trend. Most brides are summer brides (especially here in the US) where they won’t want heavy lace sleeves in 80+ degree weather…

Since SHE is copying Grace Kelly herself, I’m not sure why you would get upset. If you love it because it’s diferent, then pick something else, but if you love it because you love it, then nothing’s changed.

I’m just hoping her dress causes a bit of a trend in sleeved wedding gowns… I look awful in everything strapless.

Errr… My mom had lace sleeves on her dress, you were not starting a trend darlin’! Wear what you want… no one will think that you are copying. I bet by the time your wedding day comes no one will even be thinking about Kate’s dress!

I have a vintage gown that has lace sleeves. So… it’s kinda a classic style.
If you love it, and want it, why worry about what a bride is wearing elsewhere?

Say what? Darlin hate to tell you, but there’s few ‘unique’ things about the Bridal Machine. Someone has ALWAYS done it before you… the chances of you being first are slim to none. That doesn’t mean that your GUESTS have seen it before, though! Plus it shouldn’t be about being a unique butterfly, it should be about getting married to your awesome dude.
That being said, I always thought I wanted to black and white damask and lime green wedding, and then it seemed like everyone and their mom was doing it and I just got tired of the trend… so I moved on and I actually love my plans now more than ever 🙂
It’s gonna be okay!

I can understand what OP is saying. It hasn’t been a very popular style recently. Most dresses are strapless and now that Kate Middleton has worn the lacey sleeves, you will see more women wearing it. If you like it, wear it! If people think you are wearing it because it has suddenly come into popularity again, oh well, whatareyagonnado? lol Wear what ya like, regardless of whether its popular or not. 🙂

I hear you!!!!!!!!!!! I was expecting her to wear a dress exactly like the one I’m wanting to order and I was SO nervous that I would forever be accused of trying to mimic Kate when I had the idea prior to her wedding! I don’t like to follow the sheep either and it was really worrying me!!!! She ended up not wearing what I thought she would so I’m still safe, but I’m sorry it has happened to you :/ Just hold your head high and if it comes up, just say you had the idea first and she stole it from you!

Oh no no no no……..don’t get me wrong. I am no trend setter by any means, nor am I looking to be.
I like what I like. But what I usually like is something off the beaten path. I am very traditional, but at the same time, I do like to be “different” or even a bit quirky. Around my neck of the woods, buffets are standard, so we will not be doing buffet, haha.
Maybe I will have my roomie at the time, who I was watching it with, sign an affidavit about how much I loved it waaaaaay back when. Just kidding.

Try altering it just alittle… like doing elbow length sleeves…
