Currently, my Fiance is in airforce rotc. However, he will be active duty sometime after graduating. We have set our date to August 3, 2013. So we should be booking venders and venues in the next few months (October-December). He doesn’t find out his active duty date until January and it can still change after that. I am afraid that we will not be able to have a wedding or honeymoon. Does the military give leave for weddings? Any advice?

im not air force, but im active duty enlisted. it really just depends on his command, and what theyre doing at that time. i know that alot of commanding officers will be more lenient with granting leave for big life events such as weddings, births, illnesses and deaths, but one must remember the mission will always come first, and if hes mission essential, that decreases the likelyhood for leave approval. if i were you, i would continue on with that date, but make sure that your vendors are flexible, and will work with you on date changes.

Hi my fi is active duty and is on a submarine. We’re in the same boat as you because things can change on a whims notice. We had a friend who had to completely reschedule the wedding. But the previous comment is right it really depends on what’s going on. I would recommend looking into wedding insurance if your incurring nonrefundable costs now.

Yep, totally depends. My husband’s priors squadron would not deploy you if you had a baby due at the beginning of the deployment and would send you home early for a delivery. And they were mostly in a undermanned career field. This unit, he can barely request an evening off to celebrate my birthday. Units are all over the place as far as leave goes.
I’d definitely get insurance or even think about pushing up the wedding. We had a four month engagement and a big church wedding and reception, so it can be done.
