RMCWasil:  I don’t know anything about military bands, but my guy is a Marine. I think you will be able to marry him during his leave after basic training. I know Marines get 10 days after boot and I know a few girls get married then. They don’t get stationed until all their schooling is done.

RMCWasil:  Hi! My guy is currently trying to get into the Army as well. When he talked to the recruiter about his plans, we originally thought we would be able to get married in the space of time between Basic and AIT. However, the recruiter said this is inconvenient because there’s a lot of paperwork to be done and suddenlly changing his status in the middle of everything can even cause problems. So, from our understanding it is best to wait until after AIT to get married, right before he gets stationed that way you can go with him.

RMCWasil:  exactly What I was talking about. The ones I knew tjat got married after boot camp, they just did it at a courthouse. Regardless when you decide to do it, it’s going to be a lot of paperwork. I guess it just seemed a bit better to get the paperwork out of the way while they were still at school, so once he was stationed, the couples only had to worry about moving.

They don’t get any time off between basic and AIT, but family is invited to graduation. When my FI graduated, we got to see him Thursday and Friday, and he left for AIT Saturday at midnight. A few soldiers in his class did get married between basic and AIT, so it can be done. I would definitely recommend getting married either before or after his training though. We chose to wait until he completed all of his training because I did not want to spend the first 7 months of our marriage apart. The distance is stressful enough as it is.
