My fiance joshs mother found out so she offered to pay for our cake!!! yes i was really excited as our whole weddingbudget is 500 and needless to say everypenny counts. well i found my dream cake 3 tier simple elegant cake for 450 for 150 people. not bad i thought. well my fiances family is from a small town in las vegas nm. and she basically told me today she has already chosen the cake from a donut shop!!!! WTF really last time i checked its MY wedding not yours. so i asked why there as the cake there is rather dry and they look like they came straight out of the 80’s plus they wont even do a simple filling just staright up cake !!!! i just wanted a simple modern cake:( well she said its her way or the highway.. WHY EVEN OFFER TO HELP US IF YOUR GOING TO DO THAT???

A lot of times when family is contributing money, they expect for it to come with some decision making ability. If she only feels comfortable paying for a cake that she picks out, you will have to decide if you want a free cake, or if you want to pay for the cake you love.

Seriously, dried up donut cake!? WTH is she thinking.. Tell her to spend the extra 7 dollars and at least get an Ice Cream Cake from Dairy Queen! Kidding.. Don’t accept the 80’s donut cake.
Boo Future Mother-In-Law… Get your own. You won’t be happy with that, who would? Pffff..

I’m with MissTatas on this.
Of course, you could also point out the cake would probably become damaged and/or dry up if she brought it. (provided the travel time is more than thirty minutes, lol).
That doesn’t mean she’ll still go with the cake you are in love with, either, but she might at least go with something a little tastier and closer.

Is it a typo, or is your budget $500? Because you can’t be picky if you want a free cake for 150 people on that kind of budget! If you meant $5,000, I’d say get your own cake 🙁 It would be nice if she’d help you out, but obviously she doesn’t have much common sense.

Future Mother-In-Law passionate about donut-cake. Ridiculous/very weird.
I agree about filling being a necessity. My future mother in law works at her friend’s wedding venue sometimes, and she always brings back cake for us to try. Most of it is kind of gross haha. The moist ones with raspberry or strawberry filling are usually the best, and the white cakes with rolled fondant for icing or just too much icing are the worst.
