A lot of times when family is contributing money, they expect for it to come with some decision making ability. If she only feels comfortable paying for a cake that she picks out, you will have to decide if you want a free cake, or if you want to pay for the cake you love.

Seriously, dried up donut cake!? WTH is she thinking..  Tell her to spend the extra 7 dollars and at least get an Ice Cream Cake from Dairy Queen! Kidding..  Don’t accept the 80’s donut cake.

Boo Future Mother-In-Law…Surprised           Get your own. You won’t be happy with that, who would? Pffff..

I’m with MissTatas on this.

Of course, you could also point out the cake would probably become damaged and/or dry up if she brought it.  (provided the travel time is more than thirty minutes, lol).

That doesn’t mean she’ll still go with the cake you are in love with, either, but she might at least go with something a little tastier and closer.

Is it a typo, or is your budget $500? Because you can’t be picky if you want a free cake for 150 people on that kind of budget! If you meant $5,000, I’d say get your own cake 🙁 It would be nice if she’d help you out, but obviously she doesn’t have much common sense.

Future Mother-In-Law passionate about donut-cake. Ridiculous/very weird.

I agree about filling being a necessity. My future mother in law works at her friend’s wedding venue sometimes, and she always brings back cake for us to try. Most of it is kind of gross haha. The moist ones with raspberry or strawberry filling are usually the best, and the white cakes with rolled fondant for icing or just too much icing are the worst.
