I went dress shopping today and found a dress I love! But it is slightly too small and would need to be let out. It is a Melissa Sweet Fern dress. The best pictures of it are: http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/dresses/21489/
Because it is a Priscilla of Boston dress I cannot order the right size and they are giving me 50% off. But it still costs $2000 which freaks me out! There is lace on the bodice, can they really let it out? I need to let them know by tomorrow!

That is a really beautiful dress, I love the lace! But tht is very expensive for something that you can’t get in your size. I hope it works out!

That dress is so beautiful! You said it’s only slightly too small, so yeah, they’ll be able to let it out and still have the lace continue all the way around. There will be some lace in the seam allowance. If it needs to be let out more than an inch though, I would say they’d probably have to come up with some alternative. I’ve seen seamstresses perform some miracles when having to let dresses a ton and adding in more fabric panels. I’d say that if this is the case then it’s probably not worth spending $2000 and then dealing with a sewing nightmare, but if really is only slightly too small, it will be fine!

I really advise people against buying a dress that is to small. If it is a half size to small it usually is fixable but what if something happens (like they put you on prednisone 5 weeks before the wedding and you gain 10 lbs). Also $2000 is alot to spend on a dress that will need considerable alterations. Can it be fixed. Yes they could put a corset back in. Is it worth it? That is for you to decide. You may need to put $400-$600 more into it depending on where it is to small and what other alterations it needs.

I wouldn’t get it…..it’s too small, too expensive, and you sound doubtful, a sign that its not the dress. You’ll find something better.

Thank you ladies! I think you are right. It is not the right dress for me. It’s way more than I wanted to spend and I am still concerned about letting it out despite the assurances from the salon.
