Are there any Gainesville brides out there? If so who (where?) is your venue? I’m about fed up with mine and ready to find another location. Open to suggestions both good experiences and bad are appreciated!

I’m in Gainesville! But not engaged yet. Where is your current venue?

I’m not in Gainesville anymore, but I went to UF back in the day. I can’t think of any venues in Gainesville, but I do remember that there are some nice historic plantation homes in Ocala. Depends on what kind of reception you envision, but those could be an option. I would do a search online to start.

There are some really nice b&b’s in the area. Haven’t been to any weddings there- most of my friends had theirs in their hometowns.

Well, our venue has been, for the last year almost, the Gainesville Country Club… but since choosing this place they have lied about questions we specifically asked them regarding extra fees and that just doesn’t sit right with my fiance and I. We are looking into the Thomas Center now.
My hometown is about 20 minutes away and there are no places there to really have a wedding lol.

Check out the baughman center and thomas center.

@shaydenise Hows your venue situation going?

I’m in Gainesville and thought about doing my wedding here. I seriously considered the Thomas Center, the hippodrome, and sweetwater branch inn. Each of them has a different feel but all were great venues and super helpful in the selection process. However, I ended up deciding to get married in my hometown. Good luck!

We are getting married in the Thomas Center Garden under the big oak tree. It is surprisingly cheap to rent just the garden and not the building and they let you use the bathrooms inside free of charge. Our reception will be at the Sweetwater. It is nice b/c we will get the romance and regal feel of the Thomas Center for the ceremony and then the sweet and fun feel of the Sweetwater for the reception. But if it rains we will have to get married inside the sweetwater reception hall, but I’m hoping that does not happen.
A few other places I loved were…….
the Florida Museum of Natural History (you can get married in the butterfly garden)
The Herlong Mansion in Micanopy
BayLaurel in Micanopy
Good luck on your search!!

Are any of you going to either of the bridal shows coming up?
I think there is one on August 29th and the other on Sept 12th.
I think I will prob try and make it to the Sept 12 one just for the experience 🙂
