Jon Snow can’t be dead. he simply can’t. I’m hoping he’ll turn into a wolf or something (since he has that strong connection with Ghost).  My worry is that Melisandre will turn him into something evil. For years I’ve been banking on the idea that Jon will be the “winner” in the end, but who knows now. That’s what I love about HBO shows, they will keep you on your toes.

Arya is badass and I have high hopes for her — as I’m sure we all are.

Cersei is annoying as usual. Of course she can pull off that awful haircut and still look good. Bitch. I also didn’t know that was a body double. Anyway, she hasn’t actually confessed to her incest, so she might have some much more horrible punishment coming her way. But I really hope she manages to not confess because that means horrible punishment for Jaime, and I’ve grown to like him.

Not terribly worried about Khaleesi, she can take care of herself.

anyway, waiting for the next season is going to be really hard!

The Nights Watch will burn Jon’s body ASAP. They know what happens if you don’t burn the body and they do not want someone who has that much knowledge about their defenses coming back as part of the Night King’s army.

Fire + Targaryians = Season 6 Episode 1 is probably going to be bad assed.

Could not hate Melisandre more.

Was happy to see Theon finally get some of his missing balls back.

I hate to be that person and usually I’m not, but you guys know her name isn’t “Khaleesi” right?  It’s a title, just like “queen” is a title, and it was the title she had when she was married to a khal (Khal Drogo – similarly, “Khal” isn’t his name either).

Her name is Daenerys Targaryen, which is actually pretty important.

To be more on topic, it’s crazy and exciting to see the show make big leaps away from the source material – there have been several huge differences this season as well as things that cannot be found in the books anywhere.  They’re really racing toward 100% new material as well.  I imagine the show writers will finish the whole thing themselves and GRRM won’t be writing any more books.

mrsfry2015:  Disclaimer: while I used to be quite into the books about 15 years ago and enjoyed moments of the first couple of seasons of the show, I’m now more ambivalent about the whole enterprise. I think that the books and the show take a sort of glee in indulging in violence and misogyny that, for me, is not excused by the usual defenses of “it’s just being gritty/realistic” and “it’s just a show, don’t be so serious.”  It all seems to result in a certain audience voyeurism/desire to justify the show’s violence that unsettles me.

That said, I hope that Jon Snow is dead, not because I dislike him, but because it would mean that this series is actually as genre-bending and revolutionary as its fans like to claim it is.  I would give all involved credit for being willing to actually kill off one of the most beloved (but also very standard stock fantasy genre) characters in the series.  Given some of the moments of promise and creativity shown early on, I would personally find it a great disappointment for it all to end in a very standard, true-to-fantasy-genre battle where the Chosen Ones (Jon and Dany) battle the Great and Timeless Enemy.

The interesting thing about Jon Snow’s death is that I think show Jon is dead, whereas I would eat my own arm if we find out that book Jon is actually dead. In the books, we have several characters that already came back from the dead (most notably Lady Stoneheart), brought back by Thoros of Myr, a red priest of Rhollor (oh god, my nerd is showing). Mellisandre is a red preistess who we already know has some serious powers. The show’s writers (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss) along with Jon’s actor Kit Harrington are adamant that Jon is not returning because they want to escape from the traditional fantasy trope that MarriedToMyWork mentioned. A few years ago all the book readers expected Catlyn Stark to return as Lady Stoneheart and have been thus far disappointed. I’d be surprised if the show writers bring back Jon, but not Catlyn.

Arya’s blinding is a punishment, but also another portion of her training. To become a Faceless Man (awesome assassin), she needs to be able to utilize all of her senses and they’ll grow stronger when she loses her sight. Arya is awesome, despite being maliciously insane.

Dany’s story is a mystery still, but I’m guessing it involves Drogon swooping down and all the Dothraki raising her as their queen. Then she has an army. Woo.

Stannis. The foreshadowing of Shireen’s death was definitely there, but it didn’t make watching her burn any less painful. I was expecting her mother, Selyse, to jump on the pyre with her girl (think Denethor/Faramir in Return of the King). Alas, she simply hanged herself. Too bad. Basically everyone in the North sucks. I have no idea where Sansa is going to run to, with her half-brother Jon likely being dead. Oy. Poor girl can’t catch a break.

Did anyone else think the last episode was anti-climactic? The only parts I really liked were when Tyrion talked to Varys (I love those scenes) and when Sansa and Theon escaped.

I’m the person who hasn’t watched all of the GoT TV episodes because it was bugging the hell out of me that they didn’t follow the books when it first aired. Then I heard that this season is veering into new territory and began watching. So that said, I knew Jon was going to get stabbed, but I, too, would die a little bit inside/be shocked if he dies in the books. My husband has a theory that Jon Snow is an illegitamite Targaryen and somehow he and Daenerys end up together/ruling. ANYWAY, I’m at a loss to guess what’s next considering how far the series has moved from the books but I will be SO. PISSED. if George R. R. Martin doesn’t finish the series (as I think most of us suspect he won’t now that he’s sitting pretty on all that HBO money).

Stannis–I hope he is dead. He is a horrible man and has no business being on the Iron Throne.

LOL, this made me laugh because he’s actually the only person who has a rightful claim to the throne and technically he should be king.

I’m still on episode 4, but I’ve read all the books so I know what’s coming…although they’ve deviated a lot this season. I don’t think Jon Snow will stay dead on the show- I have a strong feeling he ends up on the Iron Throne at the end, and the show won’t deviate that mich from the books. I’m glad Sansa survived, too- I’m also rooting for her.

ClaudiaKishi:  More or less the only thing that could fully redeem ASOIAF/GOT for me is if Sansa takes them all out (preferably saying some variant of “who says life isn’t a song now, b***h?” to the people who have been the worst to her) and ends up on top when it’s all said and done.

The tears from the ultra-misogynist “we think Sansa deserved to be mutilated/humiliated/assaulted” wing of the fandom (one of the good things about the show is that that part of the fandom, which was far more vocal during the early days, has been largely marginalized) would sustain me for a very long time.

mrsfry2015:  Perhaps this is one of those things that comes through more clearly in the books (which color the way I view the show), but the books have long been pointing to Jon and Dany (with possible assistance from Tyrion) as the Chosen ones in charge, the ones that everyone will have to eventually flock to or help once things go bad beyond the Wall.

MeandMyLouboutins:  what I meant was that I didn’t know it was a body double until I read the OPs post. I had actually wondered when I was watching it last night. what a nice body!

KitSnicket:  yes, most of us are aware her name is not Khaleesi, but also most people know what we’re talking about when we say it. it does not really matter as long as the point gets across. it’s only TV.
