I didn’t see a discussion already started about this, so sorry if this a duplicate!
I loved Game of Thrones and wanted to see what other fans thought of the season 5 finale. Just to let you know, I haven’t read the books so Im a tv show only fan. I personally loved the episode!!! Not as much as I loved Khaleesi riding a dragon or the White Walker battle but I thought it was a fitting ending to the season. I have fallen back in love with this show after the last 3 episodes, it like they remembered how to do the show again. It feel really flat for me for like almost all of season 4 and some of this season. Here are my thoughts in no particular order:
So many cliffhangers!!! So many people we don’t know if they are alive or dead:
Stannis–I hope he is dead. He is a horrible man and has no business being on the Iron Throne. He has done horrible things listening to the Red Witch lady, but I think he did some horrible things before that too. Also, am I the only one who saw him burning his daughter alive coming? The episode before that one, the red witch told him he is a king so his blood runs through others. Anyway, I’m not saying it should have happened, but I just saw it coming so it didn’t shock me. He doesn’t seem to have anything important to bring to anyone so why keep him alive? My DH thinks he is, with the way they edited the scene we won’t know until…..we know.
Arya—I LOVE this girl!!! I loved seeing her kill that awful dude. I’m not even sure of his name or what he did seasons ago but he needed to die. I’ve been waiting for her to become badass and kill the people on her list. I didn’t quite understand the scene back in the hall. I gathered they were punishing her for killing someone other than who she was told. But what did the dead guy with all the different faces mean? Her mentor was still alive, maybe who knows with them and they magic faces? And why did she go blind? That sucks but at least she is alive and that’s all I can hope for anyone at the end of a season.
Sansa & Theon–finally we see them both have a backbone and stand up for themselves! I’m glad Theon threw that girl to her death. It definitely looks like when they jump the least they will get is broken legs, the most could be death. I hope not but this show is crazy. I really want to see Sansa become badass too after all she has been through. Theon I could care less about. I feel bad for what he has been through but he did some horrible things. I just don’t care about him. And while I’m talking about Sansa, was I also the only one who thought her rape scene was not that unsettliing? They didn’t show it, thank god, and the worst was that Theon had to watch. Sucks for him but as a viewer we have seen so much worse, I was puzzled at the social media outrage. I was more upset when Joffrey used that prostitute for traget practice in his chambers. Also, she was married to Ramsey fing Bolton!!! Of course something awful was going to happen but that wasn’t the worst he could have done and ANYONE she got married to would have had sex for her. I now Tyrion didn’t but he is awesome so there.
Cersei–I didn’t realize her face was CGI’d on another person’s body until I read that after. I didn’t think the walking scene needed to be so long, but otherwise she got off easy. She has been one of the worst on the show. Not getting her own hands dirty but manipulating, conniving, and hurting other people every chance she got. I say she got off easy. Yes she was in prison, yes she got slapped a bunch, barely ate and licked water off the floor. Sure she walked naked and had everything thrown at her. But she is alive, has all her body parts, her hair will grow back. She’ll be fine and probably more evil than ever the next time we see her.Though I would like it if she had a change of heart due to all this. Realized she caused so much pain to so many in different ways and tried to be better. We will see.
Jon Snow—-Well, I did NOT see this coming and apparently many others did. I found out after that this was how the 5th book ended but I don’t think we have seen the last of him. The actor is quoted as saying we won’t see him next season but that doesn’t mean we won’t see him again at all. I instantly thought that the red witch could bring him back or he could suddenly tap into warg powers go into ghost. Another theory is he becomes a white walker and either becomes King of them or rogue, either would be interesting. It just doesn’t really make sense to me after the huge white walker battle. I know the Watch dislikes him but a lot of people saw tens of thousands of white walkers so doesn’t that make a lot of what he said about whats coming, true? Does the Watch really care more about killing him than their oath or saving themselves? I dunno. And if he is in fact dead, he deserved a way better death than that.
I also really want to see Bran & Hodor again. I thought we might when Jon went north to save the wildlings, but nope. Maybe next season.
I’m curious about Khaleesi being surrounded by thousands of Dothraki on horseback. What does that mean for her? Captured, sure but will they kill her? I don’t think they ever accepted her as their Queen and do they blame her for Drogo’s death? Probably. She is my favorite and I hope she comes out on top of all this. I really think her dragons are the only hope to defeat the White Walkers from taking everyone, or at least to slow them down. But she has no idea of any of that at this point. Why did she take the ring off and drop it? At first I thought it was to leave evidence for people to find her but then I thought maybe that was her new wedding ring and she took it off so they wouldn’t see it? What do you think?
Tyrion ruling Mereen will be interesting though I don’t know why that town is so important. I just love him and all his scenes are brilliant. He has Spyder by his side again, GreyWorm and M (not sure how to spell her name) helping as well. So maybe there is hope for the town but again I don’t know why its important as its not part of the 7 Kingdoms, right? its off in its own place unaffected by the happenings over there.
I think that’s all I have to say right now. I think its enough!! Thanks for reading this if you have and please tell me your thoughts on everything. I can easily forget things that happen in earlier seasons that might shed some light on furture events. I look forward to the comments!!!
