~400k – 5 bd/4 ba + 3 acres and outbuildings

In my area of Vancouver, BC there is nothing under $400k!! Well, there might be a tiny run down condo/apt for about $400k, but I haven’t seen one yet. Our 1600sq ft townhome is $730k, single family homes that are fixer-uppers are easily upwards of $800/900k…for a fixer-upper! Property tax is relatively low, so I guess that’s one positive thing! lol

@abirdword:  your post made me snort with laughter.  I grew up in south orange county, so I totally get it.  The $400k option doesn’t even inclued the price of the car to tow the trailer.  I seriously doubt you could get a house in south central for $400k and  even if you could, thanks but no thanks!   CA home prices are insane!

Wow, some of you guys really need to move!

100,000 – Pretty typical of the houses where I live. 3 bedrooms and 1 bath.

200,000 – Technically 199,000. 3 bed and 3 bath.

300,000 – 5 bedrooms and 4 baths.

400,000 – 4 bedrooms and 5 baths.

500,000 – 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. It doesnt look like much from the front, but the inside and the back is amazing. Tons of land, in ground pool, fields for horses, ect. Its also the only house in my zipcode thats over 500,000.

100,000 gets you a 1 bed 1 bath 680 sq ft condo, in a bad area

200,000 gets you a 2 bed 2 bath 1000 sq ft condo, in a nicer area

400,000 gets you a 3 bed, 3 bath 2000 sq house

Southern California sucks, it’s so expensive and I live in one of the cheaper areas

I live in Northern Ireland. Its amazing how different the American houses look compared to here – theyre so much nicer! I converted the $ into £ so here you go –

$100000 (£65000) – in a very bad area

$200000 (£130000) in a badish area

$400000 (£270000) – in an OK area

Looks like you get way more bang for your buck in certain parts of the US!

We’re actually buying a forclosure (hoping to close in 4 weeks) and are getting a STEAL.  Its in the same area as above and is $400000 (£270000):

Bit of a difference from the $400000 one above!!! It was actually on the market 5 years ago for £1.5 million ($2.5mil) before it got foreclosed!!!

Clearly I need to move too!

100k will get you an empty lot (but there are none)… so nothing!

200k will get you this charming creature (3 bedrooms, 1 bath)

300k will get you my house: (3+ 1 bedrooms, 21/2 baths)

400k will get you about 4 full bedrooms, 2-3 baths. There is NOTHING in my neighbourhood for sale at this range though. There’s a huge jump from the 200-300k range to 600-800k… so upgrading will be a fiasco!

I specifically did my zip code since my city varies so much by neighborhood.

100k gets you this one bed 600sqft condo in a small complex (basically purchasing apartment living)  not popular at all.

269 Shawmont Ave # 8A1, Philadelphia, PA 19128

200k gets you my house! 3 bed 1200 sqft row home

400k, well 380 gets you this 3 bed 3 bath 2400sqft twin

227 Delmar St, Philadelphia, PA 19128

I’m in the Atlanta suburb of Duluth (~25 minutes from downtown) so I stuck to my city since Atlanta itself can vary so much.

In Duluth, GA your money can buy you the following:

$95,000 – Split level built in 1983 with 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom and about 1500 sq. ft.

Property Image

$199,900 – Built in 1984, 4 bedroom and 2.5 bathroom

Property Image

$299,999 – Built in 2010, 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with almost 2500 sq ft.

Property Image

$400,000 – Built in 1993, 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms with 3177 sq. ft and over an acre of land

Cool idea! We live in the western half of our county, which is the “rural preserve” area. so I searched the entire western half of the county for my responses.

$100,000- A .71 acre vacant lot, no homes are available in all of the western half of our county at that price

$200,000- A 2.92 acre vacant lot, no homes are available in all of the western half of our county at that price

$400,000- A 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom rambler, built in 1951, 1050 sq ft, complete with 1960s wood paneled walls, on a 2.92 acre lot, asking price $399,900

$96,000 in my old neighborhood- same size, same builder as my old house

$195,000 in my new area

$450,000 in very good part of big city

$399,000 in my old area

I live in a large area with two major cities and lots of smaller cities so the prices vary a great deal by area. You can also get urban lofts & apartments & condos in both big cities.

I lived in the smaller of the two big cities in a brick & siding $93,000 3/2/2 1330 sq ft built in 1998 when I met dh. He lived in a farther out suburb of the bigger city in an all brick $140,000 1900 sq ft 3/2/2 built in 2007. We moved to a suburb closer to the middle of it all since I work in the smaller big city and he works in a suburb north of the bigger city. Our home was built in 1991 it’s an all brick 2400 sq ft 4/2/2 and we paid $218,000.00
