We are planning on doing the bouquet and garter tossing ceremony, but im not tossing my real bouquet, im buying a premade silk one specifically to toss. When the groom tosses the garter, what happens to it? I know the single lady who catches the bouquet usually keeps it, but i want to keep the garter in our keepsake box. So do i buy a second one for him to throw, or do we ask the guy who catches it to give it back, or what?

I bought a nice garter to keep and a cheap garter for the toss. I wore them both, and my husband removed the toss garter.
Although, afterward, the guy who caught the garter came up to me wanting to know what he was supposed to do with it and did I want it back. I told him I didn’t need it and didn’t care what he did with it, haha.
A lot of garter sets that you see in stores or online come with two just for this reason!

Yep, two garters — one for keeps and one for tossing!
I did end up demanding the toss garter back, though — I needed it for something that would take far too long to explain. The guy who caught it was a lot more upset than I thought he’d be about giving it back — haha pouted and called me an indian giver and everything! Some guys are weirdly sentimental like that.

I know “back in the day” (70’s and 80’s) guys put garters they caught on their rearview mirrors in their cars. pffffft.
But today, I think they just give them to the girl that catches the bouquet. She will just keep it once he puts it on her leg.
Or they can just get rid of it. Typically it’s a cheap one and I don’t know ANY guys who are that sentimental that they’d keep it at all, let alone in a special keepsake box. I doubt any guys even KNOW what a keepsake box is. lol

Um, what? The guy who catches the garter is supposed to put it on the girl who catches the bouquet? That’s gross!

LOL @ the keepsake box for the garter.
I don’t know a guy that keeps a keepsake box for ANYTHING, let alone someone’s garter at some wedding. I know that’s not what you said, but when Stace126 brought it up, I choked because it was such a funny thought lol.
To be honest, I never thought about what the guy does with these things when he catches them….I think in the back of my mind, I always imagined the guy that caught and wanted this type of underwear to be smelling it later that night whilst beating off to the thought of the bride….which is why I won’t be doing this lmao.

Yea I don’t like the idea of the groom being like hey let me take this off my wife and have all these men scramble for it especially since most are family. The whole thing is icky. We will have no garter toss.
But, I agree with others buy a cheap one and throw that.

Wedding garters are usually sold in sets of 2, one being a plain one which you use for the toss (or else you buy an cheap extra one for this purpose)
I did not have the guy put the garter on the girl. To racy in my opininon.

Get a cheap one to use. The weddings I have been to in the past, the guy and girl had to dance together. Kinda funny I caught the bouquet and my ex caught the garter. Talk about awkward

We just had our guy with the garter and girl with the bouquet pose for a photo together. Nothing big. 🙂

Something about this tradition really gets on my nerves….How about my guy throw a bunch of flowers to the guys while I rip off his boxers and throw it to the ladies! YEAH BABY!
