Ok so i have been reading about Garters and people talk about a Garter to keep and a Garter to toss. What is the deal with this. I bought a cheapy one from Michaels that i was going to toss. Then i saw the beautiful ones on etsy and on here that were homemade and i feel in love. Last few weddings that ive been to they didn’t do a Garter toss. What is your opinion? Should i make another one that is cute and keep it for myself? And just toss the simple one that i bought. Thanks for the help.

As far as I know the tradition is to wear two garters one you keep qne one you toss. The one you keep is generally fancier and nicer.

I got mine at Davids Bridal, it came with the fancy one and the cheaper looking one. Husband ended up tossing the fancy one….oh well… honestly it didn’t mean that much to me anyway. If it was a nice, expensive etsy one then yeah I probably would have cared. If you do not want to do a garter toss that is fine too.

@furtureffcaptwife: Exactly. Since you don’t get the one you throw back, you’ll want one to keep forever in your wedding memory box 🙂 For this same reason, a lot of brides have a second smaller (or silk) toss bouquet, since you don’t want to throw your real one if you’re planning on drying it out or something like that!

I have 2, one to keep and one to toss… I did mine and the one to toss I got it for free at a bridal show, I just embroided on it “You’re Next” hehe

I got mine as a set, so I have two. I will keep one, and I haven’t decided whether or not to do a garter toss, but that is typically why you have two. I like both of mine 🙂

I really don’t care about keeping a garter, so I will just get one inexpensive one and use it for the toss and be done with it!

This is the inspiration for my garter. A friend of my mom is making mine based off this picture I found on pintrest. I managed to find the charms on a website. I’m so excited to see them!!! The bottom one would be a toss garter.

The garter toss is all about preference. We want to do one but I also want to keep my garter so I decided on two of them; one to wear, one to toss. I’m a plaus size girl so I had a hard time finding a garter I liked that would fit and ETSY had some great ones but I didn’t want to spend a lot so I opted for a DIY set. I watched some YouTube tutorials and set out to get supplies. Most DIY’s call for a thick ribbon but I couldn’t find one I liked so I found a silky material. In hindsight it would have been a lot easier with ribbon LOL Here are a few pictures of my finished product. As you can see the tosser is quite a bit smaller than the keeper, but I didn’t buy enough lace so I just worked with what I had LOL I don’t expect anyone to be wearing it later. Oh! And I don’t plan on wearing both (tosser only goes to my knee) so I’ll have my Fiance take mine off (for show) and he’ll have the tosser in his pocket and will do a little switcheroo 😉 (please excuse my GIGANTIC pictures. I can’t seem to figure out how to make them smaller)
