In Savannah there are alot of small bed and breakfeast places that are very resonable. Also tybee island has some very cheap hotels. Make sure to check out riverstreet in Savannah. Also check out clearys for breakfeast if you can and Vini Van go gos has the most amazing pizza ever!

SO FUN!!! You’re in luck cause I am from Atlanta and lived/will live in Savannah with the FI!!

Savannah is GORGEOUS!! So romantic and the epitome of Southern charm, you’ll love it! You might actually like a bed and breakfast, it’s just really homey and comfortable and they usually do breakfast to your room or in the dining room and one we did had wine and apps every night for us which was cool to do before or after dinner to kind of “pre-game” before we went out for the night. A hotel we stay in frequently for events or nights we didn’t need to drive home was Avia. It’s right in the heart of Historic Downtown and in walking distance to Riverstreet and City Market, both of which are MUST dos because they have great restaurants and cool bars with neat shops to look in. I suggest getting ice cream and candy from River Street Sweets, omg they have the best pecan praline ice cream!! Do a pedicad ride, it’s so fun and they work off of however much you think they earned. Of course, it’s romantic to do a horse and buggy ride πŸ™‚ Ghost tours and the haunted pub crawl tours are fun and you learn about the history of the city. The old mansions are beautiful and you can tour them. Some of our favorite bars are Bonerz on River Street (small, good food, and karaoke!), B and B at City Market, Pour Larry’s at City Market, and countless that I honestly can’t remember the name to but any on River Street or City are great! Wild Wings at City is great to get late night food and drinks, watch some sports. And you have to get pizza from Sweet Melissa’s, they’re open til late in morning and they have THE best pizza, you’ll see from the line it always has. I love how you can walk everywhere and you can walk around city with alcohol, as long as it’s in a cup. O and you HAVE to eat at Paula Deen’s restaurant, THe Lady and Sons, you will never eat better SOuthern food and do the buffet. It’s a little strange how they do their seating and reservations so research before you go, don’t just show up. I feel I could talk so much more about Savannah but that’s all I can think of now, pm me if you want to know more or ask questions!

Atlanta is my hometown and I love it, love the city! You can get some good deals on staying downtown, just research it online and think about what you want to do while you are there and plan your hotel that way. The city is really big and kinda spread so that helps but there is MARTA (our subway type transportation) and a lot of hotels do shuttle services. Some of the fun things is the Coke museum, the aquarium, Centennial Olympic and Piedmont Park, the Margaret Mitchell house (author of Gone With The Wind) and if you can its fun to catch at show at the Fox Theatre and any other theatre in town. Depending on when you go, there’s the Braves at Turner Field (baseball) and if you like hockey there’s the Thrashers at the GA Dome. Tons of good restaurants!! The Sundial at the top of The Westin Hotel is SO GOOD and romantic and the cool thing is that it’s a circular restaurant that rotates and you can see the entire city. Very cool, make reservations! Atlantic Station is fun, it’s all outdoor shopping and there’s some really good restaurants and a movie theater. Night life is great, just depends on what atmostphere you’re looking for. There’s Hooters, Hard Rock Cafe, and Taco Maco and then there’s the college type bars by GA State and GA Tech, the Vinings, and Buckhead and plenty in between and a lot of the restaurants are bars at night. The Varsity is a MUST! It’s an old huge drive in restaurant from the early half of the 1900s and is right across from GA Tech, and known in Atlanta. The best greasy chili dogs and hamburgers that you will ever eat and you must wear the hat!

Hope this helps, I love my cities!!! I hope you and your Fiance have a GREAT TIME and like I said, please pm if you want more or have questions!!

Hey Corgi, Are you going to Charlottesville (in VA) or Charleston (in SC)? Your travel route seemed a little funky for Charlottesville, VA, so I thought you might mean Charleston (which is near Savannah!)

I’m a Charlotte girl (albeit displaced in the midwest), so if you need any ideas about the Queen City, let me know (In what area do you friends live?)

@CorgiTales: Haha! I didn’t think Charlottesville would be quite the hoppin’ road trip stop when you’re going to Savannah and Atlanta!

Charlotte’s not much of a tourist destination (unless you’re into banking institutions and Nascar…lol), but I love it there. It is a great place to live/settle, I think (and we hope to return as soon as I finish grad school!)

Aww, I miss it so much!

While in Savannah, you have to eat at the Olde Pink House in Reynolds Square.  It’s sooo good!  They have a really cool basement tavern that you should check out for an after-dinner cocktail.  I’m a little biased as our reception is going to be at the Olde Pink House, but I promise it will not disappoint!!

@corgitales: You’re so welcome!! Sorry for all the typing errors, my brain tends to work faster than I can type sometimes! Having a place to stay and a tourguide in Atl helps a lot! As for Savannah, yes we LOVE Avia! We found it by chance and now it’s our go-to when we have to stay downtown. It’s actually a really nice hotel and you would think it would be way more expensive. There’s a parking garage right by and the downstairs lobby is very nice and the staff are GREAT! They have a bar with a piano and a restaurant and we loved it! We get cocktails or a glass of wine before heading out and great for photo ops! We did breakfast/brunch one morning on the weekend and it was so good! It’s a breakfast buffet/made to order and they have anything you could think of. Yea, being able to walk everywhere is GREAT and it’s so picturesque. There are parking garages and if you’re lucky, street parking but I would suggest parking it and walking, so much easier and you see more! Tybee is worth seeing but it’s very small so depending on when in May you go, I would go before noon or later in the evening so you can park because parking is very limited on the island. The beach is pretty nice and they have some good restaurants and local bars. Seafood in Savannah, Tybee, and the GA coast in general is AMAZING!!! I def reccommend a seafood restaurant on the way in to Tybee called The Crab Shack (or something similar) and it is soooooooooo good!! It’s set right on the water and has a HUGE outdoor deck to eat on and they have great drinks! Also, Paula has another restaurant going into Tybee called Uncle Bubba’s that we’ve never been to but heard it’s great. Make sure you have a GPS for Savannah as it can be confusing your first time.

@mrsmurraytobe – You HAVE to try the Pink House on your next visit!!!  We’re getting married in Washington Square, cocktail hour in Reynolds Square and reception in the Olde Pink House.  πŸ™‚  I love the Avia too but we choose the Hampton and Holiday Inn Express for our guests since they are SO close to the Pink House (less than a block).

P.S.  The rooftop bar of the Bohemian Hotel is pretty sweet, too!
