My FI and I were in Gatlinburg a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it.  If you like hiking, there’s no shortage of stuff to do in the smokies.  Even if you aren’t an seasoned hiker, there’s a good mix of light and advanced trails to choose from.  We bought a guidebook on the hiking trails and did some of the shorter day trails.  My FI got the flu halfway through our trip so we couldn’t do much hiking after that.  Clingman’s dome was my favorite – I think it’s the highest point in the smokies.  Cades cove was also really interesting – it’s this 10-mile driving loop that people will use for wildlife viewing.  We also went to a couple of wineries that were pretty good.  One was in downtown Gatlinburg that had recently opened and another was in Pigeon Forge that specialized in apple wines.  If you’re into amusement parks, Dollywood is nearby too.

I definitely think you should check out Cades Cove in Townsend, it is gorgeous and if you go early in the morning or at night, you can see wildlife. As the PP said, there are an abundance of hiking trails with gorgeous views. We now have a lot of zipline places that are fun if you’re adventurous and of course, there’s good ol’ Dollywood. There are so many little shops and shopping malls that you could shop for days and days. I love to visit the wineries as well! As far as restaurants go, I definitely think you should go to the Peddler in Gatlinburg- it’s delicious and the Apple Barn in Pigeon Forge is yummy as well. Hope this helps a little. 🙂

I second (and third) Clingman’s Dome and Cade’s Cove.  We rented bikes and did the trail one day, It was gorgeous, though intense in some spots.

You must go eat at the Pancake Pantry for breakfast one morning.  It is the essential Gatlinburg experience.
