MrsRoberts52:  Fiance is more geeky than I am, but we definitely wanted to include little things here and there to represent it.

I bought Fiance a pair of Millenium Falcon cufflinks and I believe he got his groomsmen either matching ones or Star Wars related ones as well.  I attached a Minecraft diamond to my garter (my something blue), our entrance to the reception will be the Star Wars theme song, and our cake toppers are Han and Leia bobbleheads.

I don’t think we had any geeky decor or details.. but our first dance was to Mario Kart Love Song by Sam Hart

MrsRoberts52:  I’m actually having a Doctor Who themed wedding! I just ordered a custom bouquet off Etsy that matches my theme perfectly! For our table numbers, each table has a quote from the show, our save the dates had a TARDIS on them, our invites had the coordinates of our venue on the belly band & had gallifreyan on the actual invitation, I got custom painted shoes off Etsy, we had our cake topper made to look like us in front of a TARDIS, & our cake is Doctor Who themed too! The bottom layer has a dalek, cyberman, bowtie, and TARDIS, the next layer up has the exploding TARDIS image, & the top layer will look like the night sky.

I agree that cufflinks are a great little way to add some personalization. Also, we were considering adding small charms (hidden Mickey’s for us since we’re getting married at Disney) to the boys’ boutineers and the girls’ corsages (or you can add them to the bouquets if your bridesmaids have them). We don’t really want anything overwhelming but I like the idea of adding tiny details of personalization to something otherwise fairly traditional as it keeps the elegance and class of a timeless look while still giving it touch of uniqueness.

What about a boutonniere or something incorporated into your flowers? Maybe a pokeball or tardis or something.

You know when the officiant asks, “Do you, BRIDE, take bleh bleh bleh”.

Well, FH has a bit of a pokemon obsession [I don’t, but it makes him happy so I deal] and we are adding “I choose you to be my..” as a little nod to him.

We also plan to fist bump before out first kiss. I’m not even joking, we do this all the time.

We have a traditional cake topper for the top tier 6″ cake, but I also hand painted a bride & groom shark to put on the 14″ bottom tier cake. FH LOVES sharks.

Other than that, we are having skulls incorporated into our wedding [although, i dont think them geeky, but we both like skulls/punk things]. He will have a skull on his bout, and will be wearing a skull tie.

Darling Husband and I love all things Mario. If we have a little disagreement, or are trying to decide who does the dishes or dusts, we have a quick N64 Mario Kart race. One thing my Darling Husband really wanted for the wedding was to do a “first Mario Kart race” right before our first dance. The DJ had two large tv screens he set up and we brought our N64,  game, and controllers, and we had DH’S little brother be the announcer for the whole race. It went over so well! I was worried people would think it was boring, but his brother did such an amazing job at announcing the whole thing, and everyone in our family knows how much we love racing each other and everyone loved it. They all got super into it and were cheering, clapping, and yelling the whole time.

I really love the idea of doing some little detail, like cufflinks or a cake topper. I think it’s awesome when couples put in their own personalities.!

  • Wedding: August 2014

We are both engineers and got married in August! 6/8 of our bridal party members are also engineers, and the other 2 are biologists!

All of my bridesmaids went to the same engineering school, so I had a jeweler friend make up our school’s symbol as necklaces for all of them to wear on the day – I had one as well for later, since it was something we all had in common. (The Rice Hat Samurai on etsy if you’re intersted! He used to be an engineering student too!)

We play a lot of board games with our friends (bridal party), so I collected props for each of the resources and commodities in Settlers of Catan (wheat, brick, coin, etc…) and my husband and I held the dice I made out of foam squares, and we did some group pictures, including a ‘bad trade’ that one of our friends is always bound to make with my husband!

We also go to Simpsons trivia every month, and he has always wanted his mom’s carrot cake (his favourite!) at his wedding, so she made us the cake Homer bought Marge – “To a whale of a wife”! as a groom’s/secondary cake. (The wedding coordinator at the venue thought at first my Future Mother-In-Law was being rude to me!)

Lastly, I began reading LOTR for him since it’s one of his favourite series – he didn’t know – and I asked our officiant to put a quote from the movie into our ceremony. It was when Arwen said to Aragorn, “I would rather spend a lifetime with you than face all the ages of the world alone”.

Those little things meant so much to us! We tried to add as much of us as possible into the day. Make it you!!

We are having a Companion Cube cake (from Portal) as a nod to him being a gamer. And I’ve actually started playing Xbox games so that hopefully by the wedding it’s meaningful to me not just him haha

leah.dussault:  I LOVE Portal. I’m not much of a gamer, but gamer Fiance bought me Portal and I was able to actually beat it on my own!!!

These are all awesome ideas! I’m thinking of adding some minor things to our day as well!

We’re not engaged yet but started planning the wedding. He’s more geeky than I am, but we both like to have fun and be goofy. Being fans of the Walking Dead, we had a comic book artist sketch us as zombies. We’re going to use the sketch in our StD.

Fiance lovessss legend of Zelda, so I really want to surprise him with link and Zelda cake toppers. But the ones I’ve found on etsy are so expensive (like $150!) Soooo I’m still looking!

My Fiance is wearing pink unicorn cufflinks. Why you may ask? Because our first christmas together, our group of friends were going to have an ugly x-mas sweater party (you know, the gaudy ones from K-mart and such) but he refused. I was teasing him one day and asked him if he’d rather wear a pink, sparkly unicorn girly sweater and he said yes. Ever since then, I get him a pink unicorn for his birthday/christmas/whenever. I tell him that they are my little tokens of affection and harassment and mean that I think of him when I am out shopping. He puts up with ‘his’ collection of girly toys and agreed to the cufflinks, so long as they were the only pink unicorn things.

But we are having these awesome white chocolate 20 sided dice ontop of the cupcakes and we had the most gorgeous dragon couple cake topper for the cutting cake. Our reception is basically whatever the heck we thought would be awesome…mostly dragons and gaming stuff.

Still early in planning- but due to our venue we are seriously considering having a super-subtle Harry Potter theme 🙂 I’m a huge lit-nerd and I love HP.

I also want to have nods towards my FI’s love of D&D and tabletop gaming.
