I have to admit, I was completely taken by surprise with this proposal and the way my boyfriend brought it together was just perfect. We’re both huge geeks. He’s an independant comic book artist and I’m a cosplayer. Basically I dress up as comic book/movie characters at comic book shows. Needless to say, this is how I met my boyfriend back in 2013. I was at a show dressed up as The Mad Hatter and he was sitting at a table selling his comic books. He stopped me for a photo, I handed him my business card and he friended me on Facebook. Eight months later we had our first date at one of my favorite comic book stores and needless to say, the rest was history and we’ve been inseparatable since.
On Valentine’s morning we got around to go out to eat for breakfast. Before we left he placed a big box on my lap with a big smile on his face. On the top was a hand drawn sign that said ‘Valentine’s Day Loot Box’. I pulled off the sign and opened the box. Inside I found a ‘bouquet’ of plush kittens, a box of chocolate covered cherries and a collectible figure. Under all the goodies was another surprise. A false ‘floor’ with a little ‘door’ that said lift. I hesitated a bit and lifted the door and inside was his proposal. He drew me a comic book cover featuring the two of us with him down on one knee holding a ring surrounded by the costumed characters I’ve worn to comic book shows. Boyfriend then pulls his hand out from under the box on my lap and in his hand he’s holding the ring box and I just broke down in tears. He handed me the ring and said “I think I’ll have to keep you” and all I could do was pull him close and hug him tight while I muttered ‘yes’.
I loved the proposal. Simple, sweet, unique and just the two of us with my 16 year old daughter by our side (even if she missed the proposal because her nose was stuck in her phone at the time). Afterwards, we all went out to breakfast, then just the two of us went out to dinner later that night.
I just wanted to share because I thought the way he went about this was so unique and his proposal blew up on social media when he shared the cover he drew for me. Photo below of the comic he drew and the ring. Love them both dearly!
