don’t get gel polish if you plan to get in a chlorine pool, it will peel right off.  at least that is my experience with it. and  i’ve tried different brands and they all react the same.

you can treat a gel manicure like any other manicure and get designs, etc.

I get gel done every 2-3 weeks. No issues in the pool. They soak & scrap it off or you can have the Dremel to take it off like acrylic. I love gel! Different brands work better for other people though

I love gel nails. They last 2-3 weeks on me. Not issues swimming in the cruise ship pools or me!

As for designs, you can do a layer of sparkle polish, but not much in terms of painted designs because those polishes don’t come in gel. But ask the retailer. They might have some suggestions.

I love it. I got a gel the manicure before my wedding to prepare my nails so they wouldn’t break and then I got lazy and didn’t take it off, so it ended up lasting 4 weeks. I can’t speak to the pool issues, but I’ll see when I get back from my honeymoon if I can.

I love how long gel nails last. I don’t love taking it off. It seems to always take a layer of my nails with it, leaving them fragile. They eventually break and I have to grow a new set of nails all over again. Granted, I’ve only tried soaking my nails in pure acetone when removing. Maybe I’ll try gel polish again and have it removed professionally.

Gel nails last really well when applied really well! They do leave my nails weak after but for holidays they’re perfect. Also never had a problem swimming in chlorine (or salt water) with them. They only come off in acetone 🙂

Also remember you can paint over them too and use acetone free remover to go back to the original colour 🙂

I do my own gel nails and they generally last about 3 weeks, depending on how much I’m in the water. The other poster that mentioned that water will make them peel off is right, but if they’re done well, it should last through your vacation at the very least! The water gets in between the nail and the gel and makes them pull up at the base of your nail, but it takes a while for that to happen.

My nail girl does UV gel with shellac on top.  Last 4 weeks.  Chlorine is no issue whatsoever.  The only downside, as others have mentioned is that they are a challenge to remove, but well worth it for your wedding and honeymoon.

If you want polish to stay but don’t want the gel nails, just get shellac.  That will last you at least 2-3 weeks, although your nails won’t be as strong and you could break them easier than with gel.

Gel lasts about 4 weeks for me. I am mostly a natural nails girl..but when I get fancy…I do gel with the uv coat thing on top.

My gel nails lasted a week. I hated them. They definitely weakened my nails a little. A few chipped then I peeled the rest off.

I say go for it. I do my own gel manicure once a month – it lasts 2 to 3 weeks.

It won’t damage your nails, and you can easily take it off by soaking them with acetone.

The removal process is a pain, but it’s worth it for your wedding and honeymoon!

I am a huge nail polish person. I haven’t got fake nails in years. I do my own gel polish as well as regular polish.

I just got this gel polish done at the salon since I’m not good with designs.

this manicure is about 5 days old. I’ve worn salon gel manicures for the full 2 weeks before. Id keep them on longer but the nail growth was too noticeable.

Im also a lifeguard/swim instructor. I’ve had gel manicure almost make it the full 2 weeks. as long as I do my gel manicure with gelish or opi I never see the pool or beach mess up a gel manicure. I fully suggest them. I have a blog and I could share the link to my post about it if you’re interested to get my info on gel manicures.
