I’ve been a nail biter for as long as I can remember. The few times I’ve managed to stop biting them for a few months, my nails just end up breaking at work. It’s so frustrating. Anyway, I’m kind of insecure about my bitten nails, to the point that I feel almost akward when people ask to see my engagement ring. Obviously, I want to make my hands look pretty for my wedding day and pictures.
I’ve heard good things about gel nails but what I’m not certain of is whether you can have artificial tips attached and then gel over them? I don’t want crazy long nails but I definitely need to have a little length added to make them look good.
Anyone know? Pics would be greatly appreciated if anyone has them. Thanks!

I don’t know if you can do the gels over tips….I assume so. Overall, I have been doing the gels since it came to my nail salon like 6 months ago! I LOVE them! They last a good 3-4 weeks and they make my nails feel strong and healthy. My nails finally feel like they are able to grow and they don’t break all the time! I would definitely suggest it! YAY for gel nails!

Well, the salon that does my nails now told me I can get tips put on with the gel, but I have to admit I was a little scared to. The gel definitely made my nails stronger (no chips yet and I’m on day 19 from my original set), but I’m still not sure if it would be able to hold up a fake tip as well. But then again I naturally have really, really weak nails. If you have stronger nails, you should be able to have a fake tip put on.
But make sure you really trust the place where you are getting the gels done. It might be worthwhile to just have the gels put on your natural nail so you stop biting them and just let them grow out a bit on their own. Make something like a French manicure with the gels would give you the illusion of long nails for enough time to let them grow out a bit?

@IAmLemondrop: A good suggestion, thank you. Only I’m not sure I have the patience for that. I like instant gratification. 🙂

This gel you all are referring to comes in a “nail polish” bottle right?

@MSomar: I’ve never seen the stuff in person but I assume so. I know it goes on over your natural nails like polish and it dries under a lamp.

you definitely can! Make sure you’re getting actual gel though..some shops will try to pass their acrylics for gel which can actually be damaging to your nails. I’ve had mine for almost two years and love them!! Mine started off as tips..but now it’s my real nails underneath since they’ve had the time to grow under the gel. I was a biter too!! Not anymore 🙂

Gels with tips I’m pretty sure would be nearly the same as just getting acrylic nails (other than the chemical used). IMO, it just depends which process you like or want to use more. Have you ever had gels? If not, I would get them done prior to the wedding as not everyone likes them (or acrylics). I’ve had gels, and I HATED them, but I’m not a fan of acrylics either.

@bellagio: I’ve never had gels or acrylics. I really liked my MOH’s gels when she had hers done a few years ago and I heard they’re less damaging than acrylics. I do see your point about it being similar to acrylics if tips are used, but I think I would still prefer the gels.
@Mrs.H2B: Thanks for the tip (no pun intended). It would be awesome if the gels can stop my awful habit.
