TheGridMonster : Oh! I hadn’t thought about that, but you’re right. It does have a “galaxy” sort of look to it.
DappledDuchess : Yeah! I love a short stone search. Plus, it was a great price, since she wanted a smaller stone. I’m pretty excited about starting on her project. I’m in the midst of a project now. It wasn’t planned, but my husband said I should do it as part of my birthday gift. Anyhow, I plan to ask about my daughter’s setting, too. So I can get an idea of pricing and such.
Aaaand, my garnet arrived! I LOVE it!! It’s so pretty, and it has a lot of sparkle. I managed to grab a couple of pictures I like today. But I am hoping for some better lighting in the morning to try for some more.
It is from the Umba Valley, Tanzania. Natural Garnet with no treatment. 2.71ct equivalent, 7.8mm. Modified round brilliant with a very slight inclusion. This garnet falls within the Rhodolite family with an RI of 1.758, but it is red, red, red.
My package also included a lovely little gift stone. This is an aquamarine from Vietnam. It is a 1.12 ct equivalent oval. I don’t know much about this one, overall. But it has a few inclusions that came through on my photos. I think they are lovely, as they remind me of bubbles. I really like the color on this stone, too.

I grabbed a few more pictures of my new garnet yesterday. I’m loving hard on this stone. I already have a project in mind for it, although it will be a while before I start on it. Still … planning is fun!
And I even got another picture of the sweet little aqauamarine gift stone.
