Oh, it’s a thing, all right.  It was much more popular in the days of yore to force men into marriage.  It worked for my mother, who scored herself quite the meal ticket and enabler.

It’s less effective these days in the marriage arena now that pregnancy doesn’t mean you have to get married.

Yes, this exists, because manipulative trash fire humans exist. Men AND women. I don’t know any men this has happened to personally, but when I volunteered at a domestic crisis center, I met a lot of women who had children via reproductive sabotage (holes in condoms, flushing birth control, shit like that) with men they were trying to leave.

I don’t have anyone in my social circle like this because I try not to associate with abusers of any gender.

Your friend’s sister sucks and – as others have pointed out – isn’t very smart.

What a terrible reason to bring a child into the world.

This is awful, but my former Mother-In-Law suggested to my ex that he put holes in the condom to “force” me to have a baby.

I think that’s despicable and grounds for divorce. My cousin once told me of some family friends where the wife wanted to go back to college to get her degree now that their kids were well out of diapers and in school themselves. The husband really wanted a 3rd child, so he poked holes in the condoms….and he got his wish. They love this 3rd child, but the wife never got her degree.

It’s sick and if you’re with the love of your life and a decent human and partner, you don’t lie and manipulate and trick them into a major life decision.

Great way to blow up your marriage. Cant afford your two kids? Have another one and stop working. Financial stress is a HUGE factor in why couples divorce. This is immature and immoral behavior.

The ironic thing is, my sil claimed to hate me because my husband and I had a baby out of wedlock. She told my mil about how she didn’t like me because we got pregnant before we got married

I have an acquaintance who did this. She has a 22 month old and 6 month old and the her D.H is working 12 hour days but she’s happy to stay home with the kids. The plan had been for her to work for a couple of years before trying for baby number 2. So they did plan for 2 kids but she doesn’t want to work (although looking after 2 under 2 sounds like hard work!).

Realistically if contraception is being used properly the likelihood of an oops baby is quite small.

When I adopted my daughter, every year after the adoption for the next 4 years- just like clockwork- I would get a call from the caseworker to ask if I’d like to adopt another sibling. After the fourth call I finally asked about the situation…I was told that the birth mother got pregnant every year and told the caseworker she was homeless and “family shelters are nicer that single shelters.”

If you are pregnant, you qualify as a family, so for 9 of out 12 months you get to live in a nicer shelter.

I’ve known several people in the past who have purposely tried to get pregnant without their partner knowing for various reasons.

I once overheard a conversation with some HORRIBLE advice being given.

I was walking behind two young girls at the mall (sort of trying to speed up and pass situation) and one was pushing a stroller. The stroller girl was actually telling the other girl that if she wanted to keep her man, just have his baby as it worked for her.

I speedily kept on walking.
