I was at work today when a customer came up to the counter to purchase four Christmas “tokens”. They’re little coins that say Christmas-y things on the back with a Christmas-y scenes on the front (real descriptive, you’re welcome). Ha Anyway, she told me that she was buying them because she was going “Geocaching”. I asked her what that was and she described it as a modern-day treasure hunt. After she left, I looked it up and HOLY CRAP! It looks like so much fun!
I mentioned it to my Fiance when I got home today and he said he had heard about it and he’d love to try it out. It seems like something fun to do on a lazy Sunday around town or if we’re in another city somewhere.
Have any of you tried this? What do you think about it?
Here’s the website if you want to check it out: http://www.geocaching.com

I’ve heard of it and there are actually a few geocache locations close to our house. I’d like to try it some day, it sounds like fun!

@zippylef: We don’t own a GPS, but I’m hoping that there are ways around that (Google maps? Borrowing my mom’s GPS? Haha). I especially like that on the website, they are rated by difficulty. Did you do any tough ones?
@bakerella: There are some by our house too! I’m really excited to try it, I have 3 different ones written down already. I just have to go buy some little gifts to fill the boxes back up with!

Just wanted to update:
My Fiance and I went Geocaching today for our 5th year (dating) anniversary after I got out of work at 3pm. It. Was. A. Blast! I totally recommend it! My Fiance is always up for stomping through the woods and exploring new areas, doing it together is more fun than I would have thought (unfortunately, I’m a couch potato when I’m not busy working). We had to stop once the sun went down at about 5:30pm, but we’ve already made plans to go again tomorrow. 🙂
Also, @whiteorchid: That’s awesome!

I heard about this at our local museum last year. Hubby and I have thought about trying it out.I thought there was an expensive gadget that you needed to do this.

@whiteorchid: That’s how my brother proposed to my SIL! She wasn’t in a sorority though, so I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the same person 🙂

@PrncssDva: You don’t need to buy anything, and the mombership is free, but I’m sure it would be easier if you had a GPS. My Fiance and I used Google maps all day today and found them all. 🙂 If you have a phone with the internet on it, you could download a GPS app too.

yes! it’s pretty fun but a lot of the last few we’ve tried to find have been elusive…
i’ve used a honkin’ GPS and my iphone and i like the iphone app much better!

@whiteorchid: That’s so cool! As soon as I learned what Geocaching was a couple of years ago, I immediately thought about how awesome it would be for someone to propose like that!
I have never done it, but I would love to. I’ll have to suggest it to FH. I think it sounds like a great, adventerous date. 🙂
