I found this article really interesting:
“That early in a pregnancy, Gunter said, an embryo does not have a heart – at least, not what we understand a human heart to be, with pumping tubes and ventricles. At six weeks, a human embryo throbs, but those tissues have not yet formed an organ, so the pulsing should not be confused with a heartbeat.
“When throbbing of some tissue begins, it’s not a heart,” said Dr Sara Imershein, a gynecologist and obstetrician in Falls Church, Virginia. “Really, we call it an embryo until about nine weeks from last menstrual period,” or roughly three weeks after the new laws prohibit termination of pregnancy.”

My bigger question is how would they even enforce it? Like how are they going to keep track of a bunch of pregnant women…

So are the males going to be forced to pay child support from 6 weeks pregnant then? I mean if a woman can’t abort an unwanted pregnancy then surely males are going to be held accountable for making these kids right? I won’t hold my breath waiting.

This is pretty much a scheme to overturn Roe v Wade. Weren’t similar bills also passed in a couple of other states as well?

mel2 : I just looked the Ohio thing up. I cant believe how absolutely stupid that politician is. He even admitted he didnt know what the bill meant but still wanted to pass it.

The point is they don’t care about the person, they just care about the birth and the baby stage. You can’t call yourself “pro-life” if you’re fine with giving adults the death penalty but oppose abortion. If they did care about the “person” they would care about them through all lifestages. Pretty hypocritical.

I think its terrifying. Darling Husband and I were thinking about moving to GA next year when we TTC so we can be closer to his family. This bill is having me reconsider everything. I can’t imagine the pain of having a miscarriage then being interrogated about it! And the only exception for rape and incest if there is a police report filed. I can’t beleive this is real life.
This isn’t about babies and “life”. Its about controlling women. Its about controlling our bodies and criminalizing our sexuality. Because “good” girls don’t have unwanted preganancies.
And not to mention the impact this will have on women of color and lower income communities. Because the rich, white, and wealthy will always have access to abortions for their daughters, girlfriends, wives, and mistresses without penalty.

Terrible idea. Terrible. I am all for preventing people who use abortion like birth control, but there are very serious, very valid reasons for abortion. Do not take that away from women.

I don’t understand how people who are apparently “pro life” are supportive of the death penalty?? Can someone please explain this to me because luckily we don’t really have these kinds of people in the UK and if we do they’re not very keen to identity or explain themselves.

I’ve never seen a country go backwards as fast as we have done in the past 2 years. This bill sounds like something from the middle ages or from some country in for example the Middle East where women weren’t allowed to drive cars until recently etc. It’s beyond archaic, unscientific and lacks any form of justification. It’s a blatant overreach by the republicans to keep wowen in their place as payback for #MeToo etc. I am just completely sickened by the fact that this is happening. We should be RIOTING.

Kslim13 : Handmaids Tale!
ariesscientist : Its the American version of the “Taliban” – Christian extremists. They believe in a warped view of Christianity and think the US Federal Goverment should impose their beliefs on society. There is no logic, its a cult.
An offbranch of their group is young while male domestic terrorists who are shooting up schools and churches and assaulting women.
Its a scary place to live!

It’s sickening, and as someone who was born and raised in an even more backwoods place than Georgia, I thought I’d seen and heard it all. Interrogations over a miscarriage, so f-ing sickening.

Wow. This bill is worse than I thought… And I thought it was pretty fucking shit to start with.
Why would anyone live in Georgia now?!

Let’s be glad that the people who generally make these types of laws like to pretend that Latin America doesn’t matter because El Salvador prosecutes women for having miscarriages.

No. This bill is ridiculous and will likely get thrown out by higher powers. I don’t like how people perceive abortion these days… I think it’s taken far too lightly and seen as an easy out for bad decisions. Even here on the bee I see it suggested so women won’t be tied to some scumbag they were perfectly fine with sleeping with. That’s a horrid reason, IMO.
BUT for heaven’s sake! Some people don’t even know they are pregnant that early! And drug addicts can’t kick the habit just because… blaming them for miscarrying when they weren’t given another option is insane. I work with enough drug babies or abused children to know that some would probably have been better off if that decision was made. Additionally prosecuting someone for doing something legal elsewhere… that’s a whole new can of worms. Whoever wrote this bill and anyone who approved it are assholes and idiots.
I may think many abortions shouldn’t happen and may not personally approve, but it’s not my decision what’s right. I think people just need to take more care before making that choice and again, that’s a personal thing, not a legal one! Hopefully this bill is ditched fast. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the one that implies even a child already born or halfway out (Virginia) isn’t safe pisses me off as well.
