I mean it’s no secret that Georgia is a corrupt state that makes a mockery of democracy and is run by a bunch of backwards misogynists.

ladyjane123 :  *so far* is not a comfort when the republicans STOLE a supreme court judge and now have an anti choice majority.

These state laws are being done NOW for a reason. They know they have a chance of overturning Roe V Wade at the Supreme court level. This is not for show, there is a deliberate legal purpose here!

Whole country is honestly going to shit.. it’s mind blowing and taking the whole world with them.

Thank god I live in Canada, I feel so sorry for normal humane citizens of America who have to deal with this daily.

j_jaye :  I was reading more about this and apparently yes, they are making the men pay child support and you can also claim the fetus on your fucking tax return. I can’t even.

skunktastic :  On the opposite end of the spectrum, the one that implies even a child already born or halfway out (Virginia) isn’t safe pisses me off as well.

This is not accurate.  Once a child is born (or in the process of being born), the Hippocratic Oath kicks in and Doctors are required to safely care for the child.  They take “do no harm” very seriously.  Late term abortion laws are for women who have serious medical issues that will kill them (and they try to save the baby if they can) or a baby with a very serious medical issue.  I know a woman personally who had to have a late term abortion because her very wanted child was going to die, at best, within minutes of being born (if he wasn’t stillborn) and the thought of carrying him to full term just to lose him was even more painful than getting a late term abortion.  The GOP loves to spin these laws to make it seem like women are walking into a clinic 9 months pregnant and getting abortions for funsies, but that is just not happening.

Kslim13 :  Literally who can get an abortion before six weeks. Show me a woman *not* trying to have a baby who is monitoring her hormones and has hundreds or thousands of dollars to spare. Most women don’t know they’re pregnant until a missed period, throw in time to make a decision and afford the procedure and you’re past the six week mark. They know what they’re doing.

I’m adding that I was raised in a Republican household and even my family members think this shit is disgusting. Fuck off.

Do I believe there are absolutely crimes that are deserving of death (i.e. rape, murder, molestation)? Fuck yes.

Do I want to live in a country run by a government that thinks it’s okay to execute its citizens? Fuck no to the 10th power.

My political opinions differe from my human opinions in that I may believe something as a woman, but that doesnt mean I support a government doing it. As a rape victim, I absolutely believe rapists  need to die. But as an American citizen, I refuse to support the death  penalty because our system is built on the belief that it is better to let ten guilty men go free than to convict one innocent man. If one American citizen suffers, there is injustice in our country and it is the government’s job to fix that injustice. This is an appalling abuse of power. I may not want to personally get an abortion but I can’t tell another woman what to do.

mamabat :  Yes, this bullshit is specifically what gave me the rage today.  Comments below from Ohio Governor and from director of NARAL Ohio:

The intent is to save lives and reduce the cost of employers and employees health care insurance,” Becker says.”  **This is doublespeak straight out of hahdmaids tale and it is posivitively CHILLING**

The bill would ban nontherapeutic abortions that include “drugs or devices used to prevent the implantation of a fertilized ovum.”

Becker says the bill also speaks to coverage of ectopic or tubal pregnancies where the fertilized egg attaches outside of the womb.

“Part of that treatment would be removing that embryo from the fallopian tube and reinserting it in the uterus so that is defined as not an abortion under this bill,” Becker explains.

“That doesn’t exist in the realm of treatment for ectopic pregnancy,” argues says Jaime Miracle, deputy director of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio. “You can’t just re-implant. It’s not a medical thing.”

She says, under this bill, women would have to wait until their very lives were in danger to get an abortion in the case of an ectopic pregnancy.

“This bill will have grave impacts on Ohio’s infant and maternal mortality rates,” Miracle says.

That’s not all, Miracle says. She argues it will ban insurance from covering many popular methods of birth control.

“Birth control pills, IUDs and other methods of birth control like that – the bill states that any birth control that could act to stop a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus is considered an abortion under this bill,” Miracle says.

pond :  It’s a shame considering how close GA was to electing a woman as governor who would have improved GA and got this instead.
