As someone with siblings that were given up for adoption into a terrible situation I can attest they probably would have preferred the abortion. Adoption is great when it works out that the kids go to loving homes – but that’s not always the case. Kslim13 :

deannamarie :  We are in the same boat. Although I’ve known for a while I don’t want a child/ren, this drives it home and I dare them to try to take my birth control away!

slomotion :  wait Texas is doing this crap too?? My husband wants to move there for work. Omfg. I told him yesterday if ANY of these things passed I would refuse to go to those states with him unless i have both a tubal and some other form of birth control or a hysterectomy. I do not care. I will not go and be worried about what would happen if I even miscarry.

Honestly what the fuck is going on? Why is all of this coming up all of a sudden? Texas, Alabama, Georgia, and now Missouri?? I know they’re all trying to make it to the Supreme Court to overthrow Roe v Wade but why is all of this shit popping up simultaneously within the past 2 weeks???

Its like all of the South is in competition to see which can drag the country back in time the furthest. First it was GA “I think we can be the shittiest state in the US” then you’ve got fucking AL saying “hold my beer” and it’s just all gone downhill from here.

This is madness!

I stand by the quote from FRIENDS: No uterus, no opinion.

My opinion is if I’m growing it and I feel that I’m unable to provide it with a life where they don’t have the basic necessities (food, water, shelter, clothing, etc.) I’m not going to subject something that didn’t have a say to it. Granted, that may not be the case for everyone, and they’re entitled to their own opinions. But for old men to be making choices about young womens bodies, that’s not right.

I find it interesting that when it comes to gun control, people are so quick to point out that if someone desperately wants a gun, they’ll find a way to get one. You don’t think the same holds true for a woman who desperately wants an abortion?

All these laws do is sentence women to unsafe, back alley abortions.

This bill in particular is horrifying but I’m terrified about it going to the Supreme Court and them overturning Roe v Wade. I believe all women have the right to safe and easily accessible healthcare (which includes abortions). From a personal standpoint I’m CFBC and I’m militant about my bc but accidents happen and I need that safety net. Like am I going to have to go to doctor to doctor to find one who will do a tubal ligation?

I ended up with an etopic pregnancy and had to terminate. If not my life would have been in danger and there was no way to actually carry that pregnancy to full term. If it’s for a life saving reason or not— women should be able to make their own choice that early on in order to do what’s best for them. If I lived in a southern state and not NY would my doctor and government demanded that I wait until the Fallopian tube burst and I’m hemorrhaging before being able to make a life saving decision? A state shouldn’t be able to make a blanket law like this and not consider the women and actual lives it’s impacting.

Look to Northern Ireland to see what this law can look like https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/northern-ireland-rape-victim-abortion-england-travel-police-escort-age-12-a8751126.html%3famp

I feel grateful to live in a part of the UK where this couldn’t happen and fully support my fellow citizens who are fighting to change the law.

Obviously I’m not fully versed on US politics but is there anything you can do if you live in a different state to protest?

happiekrappie :  It’s all happening now because we now have a conservative Supreme Court.  We will be lucky if Trump doesn’t get yet another seat before his first term is up. And if he gets a second term, it is lights out.  The country will be entirely ruled by an oppressive hard right minority. When a minority rules over a majority we can expect to see violence and gross attacks on human rights and civil liberties.

All of this happening now is simply because elections have consequences.  Power begets power, corruption enshrines it.

The electoral college elected a president that stated he thinks that women should be imprisoned for abortion during his campaign.  He thinks climate change is a hoax.  Said our president wasn’t a citizen, said Mexicans are rapists and lead his fans in chants of locking up his political opponents.  None of what is happening now from kids in cages to these abortion bills should be even a tiny bit surprising to a single one of us.

saratiara2 :  Thry know the same holds true of abortion. That’s not the point of course. Their point is to oppress.

saratiara2 :  what I find even more interesting-er is that the same states/people that are crying about “but muh gun rites!!” even in the wake of school shootings are the same ones who claim to care so much about the “sanctity of life”…

wildflowerz :  you are correct. none of it is surprising, but that doesn’t make it any less—shocking, I guess is the word? conservative beliefs are evil, toxic, and oppressive. there’s not a goddamn thing anyone could ever say to make me believe otherwise at this point. this bullshit has gone too far and it has an impact on EVERYONE.
