Your 2 poll questions say the same thing, both are buying a house after getting married 🙂

We bought a house before getting married. We knew we were going to get married, but had the money for a down payment and the housing market in our area goes up SO quickly. We just wanted to get in the market! Our condo went up in value by 150k in just 1.5 years… So i’m glad we didnt wait!

Your poll answers are both the same, but we bought our house a few months before the wedding. Both are big legal commitments… I personally wouldn’t have been comfortable if we hadn’t been engaged. We both owned our own homes when we met. I sold mine when I moved in with him before we got engaged, and we sold his when we bought this one together.

We got married first and then bought a house. It worked out well.

Depends on your housing market I think. We got married a year ago and now that we’re house hunting I’m sort of wishing we did it the other way around. Houses have gone up by about $150k since we got engaged 🙁 That being said we were able to have a more lavish wedding and honeymoon than we would have had if we already had a mortgage.

We bought a house 6 months before we got married and we moved in one month after we got married.

We are probably never going to be able to afford a house in our area so getting married first, house maybe/never.

oneinamillion :  I bought the house first and then we got married. I was sick of renting but I also wasn’t buying property with someone before marriage!

We just bought a house about 4 months before the wedding. Granted this was not exactly the plan. We were planning to just start looking before the wedding to get a better idea of the market, but like others have said the housing market in our area is crazy so we decided to jump on it sooner rather than later.

It has made these few months a bit more stressful, but it’s so worth it to have our place, which has already gone up in value in the past month lol.

I agree that a lot depends on the market. We could have been happily renting for a few more years if it weren’t for the rising house prices. And I also echo whoever said that I wouldn’t have bought the house if we weren’t engaged. Going through this process has made me feel very much married already haha.

He bought our house prior to our relationship. We paid it off prior to our wedding.
